I have it at 8th. I hadn’t heard of Fireworks until this came out and haven’t heard any of their other albums. Absolutely love this album though
I didn’t know this until very recent but Dave worked at Sleeping Village in Chicago and I’m currently at his moving away show.
I last saw Fireworks 10 years ago when I did photos for their tour with TWY so this is a nice nostalgic moment.
For those in the small intersection of Fireworks and Young Money fans, anyone notice that the ooh-ooh-ooh-ooh in Bedrock is very close to the woah-oh-oh-oh in Detroit?
Would love to hear some new music from them. While the last album was good, it definitely doesn't have the staying power of their previous three albums.
Man, I wholly disagree lol. I was just listening to it a week ago and realized HLP is probably one of my favorite albums ever. I don’t know if this was ever stated outright, but it felt like the last album we were getting from them. I also really enjoyed that tea and water EP and would be down to get more of that.
I still think HLP is one of the most underappreciated albums in this genre of music within the last 5 years
I have way too much emotional attachment to both Gospel and OCL, but I can understand the argument for HLP being their "best" for sure.
OCL #1 for me, although I can't fault any of the four. Other than House and Trance by Crime in Stereo, HLP was my most anticipated album of the last 5 years or so. I was full on giddy with the surprise announcement/release - good then that the record is absolutely wonderful. I've always thought they were way better than TWY, Transit, PBC, other bands of era etc etc
I love all three (and the debut, but it's different), but HLP is the clear standout to me. Phenomenal album.
What irks me is that my favorite song from “Oh Common Life” is the title track that didn’t even make the damn album.
