We reach for the longest shadow

Blood in the Milk is just classic Fireworks lyrics. That one and the closing three are probably my favorites, but I'm loving the whole thing a lot.

Why does this feel like some weird point point scoring. Odd.

Truly, truly baffling to be mad at that poster rather than the people doing horrific shit. Just such a weird take to have instead of…ignoring it at best

Well, typically if you agree with the message that Romy was sending you wouldn’t jump through 600 hoops and hypotheticals to make it seem like they are the bad guy, ya know?

Hey guys, how about that album, eh? That sure was a collection of recorded music put together by individuals, eh?

There’s a church up the street
And on the sign up front they say
“Be a fountain not a drain”
    I’m just not that way

Guitars, bass, drums, etc were played. Very interesting.

Looking forward to the upcoming vinyl and tour announcements, I was supposed to catch that TWY/Fireworks date in Michigan a few months back but covid had other plans.

I shouldn't be responding to this, but please stop saying that I am "buddies" with someone I've talked to maybe a handful of times over the past seven years.

It's fair to post about JJR being a POS. It's unfair to judge fans in this thread for enjoying the music of a band that man is not in. If you want to make the decision to cancel your fandom knowing anyone might still possibly be friends with him that's your prerogative, but that move is melodramatic to me. Use better tact when discussing something serious or don't bother. I'm sure everyone here knows every single detail of their relationship.

I don’t think anyone I doing that? In fact, I’ve explicitly said that anyone can listen to/enjoy/talk about whatever they want.

Your minimization of their relationship to Harry and JJR is an issue, but that’s a whole other conversation

Sorry Nick. I was going off of the info in the posts below. Sorry to be spreading unverified info like that.

The lyrics were on Bandcamp, but they're a little easier to read here, and breaks down the credits a little bit more.

Got about 12 listens under my belt so far and it still feels new each time I listen. I know its literally day 5 of the year but I wouldn't be surprised if this is my AOTY.

“You keep reminding me of the feeling
When I see a picture of my parents together
    Where they're younger than me”

I’ve been thinking about this random lyric from Estate Sale a lot since I heard it.

Yes same, it reminds me of the opening to "Montezuma" by Fleet Foxes, which is one of my favorite album openers ever in part because of the opening lyric.

i really want to love this record but so far i think i just like it -- which is a bummer, but it mostly has to do with the lyrical content. while it's all very well written, there's just a little too much religious speak for me to totally get into it. too much "god" "jesus" "cross" and "church", y'know what i'm saying? it's just not for me -- doesn't matter if it's pro or anti, i just cannot relate to anything on that topic because i care so little about it. so while i can appreciate the music for what it is and love that they wrote an album that really means something to them, unfortunately a lot of the subject matter is just not hitting in the same way for me.

i was not raised immersed in any kind of hyperchristianity but its traumatic effects on american culture are undeniable and obvious and that’s why i care that a record like this exists

I still hold that this album exceeds my expectations and is very good.

Though, it’s not as good as OCL. That’s definitely their magnum opus today.

If they ever release music again, I hope they go a little in that direction. Certain tracks on HLP lean that way and it makes me want more. (Not sure the qualities that make me feel that way)

During the hiatus, Dave Chris & Ted had released a song under t he name The Wild Birds of Heaven, and I really was all about it.

Interesting. Guess that line from "How Did It Used to Be So Easy?" has been kicking around for a while.

And while I'm really enjoying this album, I agree that OCL is still my number one (so far, could change as I get to know HLP more). Would love any form of new music in that vein, if new music is on the table in the future.

After sitting with this for a few days, I'm pretty comfortable saying I think it's their best album, though I do think OCL may retain it's spot as my favorite, just because of what it meant to me at the time, and the lyrical content.
