Finally got round to listening to this the other week. It was good, sure. But I was expecting to be blown away. Felt like I was missing something. The hype and the high scores it has been getting definitely had an impact on how I was listening to it, though. It's hard not to if you're coming to an artist completely fresh not knowing anything they've done before and seeing near perfect scores all over the place.

Oliver from Deep Cuts made a good video about this, not sure if it's been posted yet...

 

I knew this was special from the first listen, but I’m only now feeling like I’m really digging into the meat of it. Tbh I feel like it’s the kind of album that you really need to sink your teeth into over time, and the hype surrounding its release can make that a little weird when it comes to developing an opinion.

 

Agreed. It's a really dense album, and rewards over time, just like all her other releases--but it's also probably the most immediate of her albums too, so that might explain the initial hype.

Phoebe jumped to my #1 but this is still one of my favey faves of the year. it's stupid how good it is.

 

Threw this one for the first time in a bit this morning and the percussion all over it still floors me.

Cannot get enough of the rhythms on this. For what is often such an angry record, it feels so fucking good. Swings beautifully, changes pace and feel in such odd but perfect ways.

This is such a standout album, of this year and recent years, the sort of thing that changes your perspective on the way you perceive music and the possibilities available.

It may or may not be your favourite album of the year - I'm still trying to decide if it's mine - but no album this year nails its vision better than this.
