I remember a couple of mixes in this (might be the demo I listened to most? whatever was on my iPod!), but listening for the first time in a while, Nate's vocal feels so weirdly mixed. The clarity of it and the loudness. Sort of sits apart from the instrumental.

This sounds great but is this all from the band? Sounds like vocals were added but maybe I’m tripping lol

  7. Oh I saw that the other day on the subreddit. I remember them saying they added some additional stuff or redid some parts themselves as the original demos are so low quality. It's more like a reimagining than a straightforward remaster in that sense. Still think it's cool. This one finally sounds like how I heard in my head after watching the 2009 live footage over and over again as a kid.

Shows how starved for new music the fanbase is lol

    this is all there is

this is really cool and damn I wish the band would update and release these someday. If a "reimagining" by a self-admitted non audio engineer can be this good, I'd love for them to get any kind of proper release treatment. It's a damn shame more bands don't end up releasing demos after some time has passed, I love when stuff like this emerges.

gave back to oblivion a shot for the first time not long ago and have been coming back to it a good bit recently. i really like it. hot take but i prefer it to burn, and i feel like people would be warmer to it on the whole were it a transition album between the first two instead of the follow up to sunshine

That’s a spicy take. I wish I liked it more but only half of it is worth returning to and even those tracks are just alright. Inferium, Two Guns, and Picasso Trigger are the stand outs IMO.

Crazy and sad to think it’s been 11 years since that record. Here’s to hoping the next one comes out in 2026!

i always ignored it because i figured it was just going to sound like wiitb but not as good, and im already a little lukewarm on that album (im a say hello to sunshine fincher all the way), but outside of the title track which feels a little nostalgia baity i dig everything else quite a bit. play dead, tarot and inferium are my top 3 prob

I love Back To Oblivion, it is immensely underrated and underappreciated

I have handwritten lyrics from Nate for Picasso Trigger, my favorite Finch song of all time

  14. Will give it another listen. I tend to forget about it because it's so dull. I feel like it's missing the quirks of SHTS and the scrapped albums or the hooks of What It Is To Burn and the S/T EP. It's just... there.

its definitely nowhere near the scrapped albums or shts tbf, the latter is a benchmark moment for the sound. but i prefer this band having any traces of that influence in the mix over wiitb. its hooks never sank into me outside of the t/t, new beginnings and the daryl songs

really wish they finished up phantasma and wov tho, absolutely love the both of them

    I love love love Inferium

a few other songs are good but I think they straddled the line a bit too much in terms of trying to satisfy fans of both the earlier albums

I think the songs on Back To Oblivion are really okay, but what bothers me about the album is the production. Unfortunately, the songs sound very thin and tinny. I also find the mix weaker than on the previous two albums. There was more potential in it.

Agreed, the production has always ruined that album for me. Can’t understand how it came out so bad/unprofessional
