Despite loving SHTS - you are right - it did screw up their career trajectory in a big way. The band also just didn’t handle the very mixed response well which led to an abrupt breakup a year later.
this band self-destructs every few years like clockwork anyway lol, would've happened even if they just made a boring ass rerun of Burn. thankfully they didn't and got weird with it instead
Hopefully, h o p e f u l l y, we get one more album out of them before they self destruct again haha.
WIITB was not stale by any means and honestly another similarly styled album would have done really well. WIITB is full on melodies and sing-alongs. I hung out with some old grade school buddies and we plopped on WIITB and sung it for a half hour, easy. To get just a tad heavier and keep the same melodic style, would have blown up. SHTS didn't offer this, mainstream, alt-rock, pop-punk fans had no interest in it which was primarily their fan base.
The fans want WIITB 2 which is why they keep doing WIITB tours. I almost thought we were getting that from them after their first 10 year tour but BTO wasn't a bad album.
I enjoy SHTS, but BTO would have fit a lot better as the sophomore album, probably. I can't imagine how hard it is to try to please everyone and also not feel like you're writing the same shit you wrote as a teenager. A hard balance to strike.
I think what’s really interesting about SHTS is you can still hear the catchier, melodic side of Finch throughout the album, but it’s almost snuffed out by odd, dissonant riffs and a desire to zig when everyone wanted them to zag.
It’s most likely just the tour with Bayside and Armor For Sleep. I’d love new music but not getting my hopes up.
that may just be when the clock was counting down to. it's not on their story anymore, so i'm not sure what time it was supposed to end.
I am happy they’re touring. Finch playing music is better than Finch not playing music. That said… My disappointment is immeasurable and my day has been ruined.
I'm still hopeful new music is coming. Possibly tomorrow or Fri since that tends to be the days such things are released.
I'm not particularly a fan of Bayside so this is a massive disappointment. And I've never listened to the opener, but could it really not have just been a 3 band bill? BUT I'm glad they're being active and maybe this means new music is in the works too.
This is such a weird complaint to me. I highly doubt that having less bands would give them more set time, which is the only reason I can fathom why someone would say this.
It's not about cutting into set times – it's making the overall length of the show longer by adding a band with virtually zero draw.
It’s more about Bayside giving a relatively unknown female fronted band a pretty cool opening spot on the tour. Show up late if that’s an issue, it’s not that hard to do lol
This, exactly. So glad there could still be bands and people that would allow a spot for another band not because of their draw
