I don't think their acoustic album gets the love it deserves. That version of Stay With Me is probably my favorite.
I love PHANTASMA so much and I think it had potential to stand next to SHTS. However, the two songs (Monuments and These Buildings Are Burning) the band worked with a ghostwriter on - I was not a fan of at all.
Have you watched the interview with Nate where he explains why they broke up for the third time? Pretty much the label asked them to use a ghostwriter, which they did (and Nate was not happy about it), and those two songs were the results. The label wasn't even stoked on it in the end so it ended up being a useless endeavor lol
I still use CDs in my car and this is my Finch mix in there. I tried to mix it up with their best across their discography: Insomniatic Meat Reduced to Teeth Black Mess New Beginnings What It is to Burn From Hell Perfection Through Silence Contra Grey Matter Hail to the Fire Chinese Organ Thieves Worms of the Earth Untitled Bitemarks and Bloodstains Stay With Me (Acoustic) Bury White A Piece of Mind Three Simple Words Ender
Yeah I mean, labelling asking for ghostwriter, then passing on songs with ghostwriter, that's a big hit. And yeah, interviewers were a little annoying lol.
Oh my god a SHTS 15th anniversary tour next year would be life changing. Still love that album so much. They are in the same club as Matchbook Romance and Boys Night Out for "bands whose debut albums didn't age very well but came back with amazing sophomore efforts"
Even if they come to NYC I'd make the trip there. And Matchbook... Voices is half full of amazing songs but it doesn't all click for me. Gonna revisit tonight i think
I fucking cherish Voices and I never even like their debut record to begin with. Voices has aged very well and I still get goosebumps listening to Goody Like My Two Shoes and Monsters.
Surrender, My Mannequin Can Dance, Portrait...so many classics on that album. Also I almost added Armor For Sleep to that group except I still enjoy their debut, WTDWYAD is just on another level.
Oh WTDWYAD is still one of my all time favorite records. I still play it pretty often and happily own it on vinyl.
Are they really gonna try to come back again lol... I adore this band, but it’s getting a little ridiculous
