Finch Announce First Live Shows in 10 Years • Page 2

Discussion in 'Article Discussion' started by Melody Bot, Jan 30, 2023.

  1. They already regrouped back in 2019 though, but never made any official announcements so judging from this thread, I don't think many fans were even aware. At the time, they would post occasional studio/rehearsal posts on instagram, some of them including snippets of unreleased music. They were hinting at some Say Hello To Sunshine related activity for 2020 as well, but then the pandemic must've shifted their plans.

Creative differences between Nate and the rest of the band + them forming a band with Buddy Nielsen behind his back, I think? It's been so long so I may be misremembering but he wasn't comfortable with the idea of letting label suggested producers/songwriters interfere with their writing process. The latter idea led them to record a couple poppier songs compared to the darker direction they were initially headed towards.

It was a bit of a messy breakup because Nate publicly shared his side in the first place, which clashed with theirs. Afterwards, he not only leaked an entire album's worth of demos from what could've been the follow-up to Back To Oblivion, but he also used a couple outlets to talk about the breakup, like in the video below.

It's all in the past though. Nate and Randy could be seen performing Finch songs at Emo Nite events in 2018 and then the whole band was already back together and writing in 2019.

The demos are on Nate's own YouTube channel:

In response, the other guys posted the co-written ones on Finch's channel. Here's one of them.

wow this song sounds amazing, and i remember the creative differences between all of them, some wanted a glassjaw sound, some wanted more deftones, they could never agree and bickered a lot, i like their third album better than the second album but thats not saying a lot.

I have rarely read more nonsense.
SHTS may not meet your taste, but they are objectively and technically very good songs. Much more detailed and thought out than the songs on WIITB, but also a completely different style.
For me it is one of the best albums of the last 20 years.

i second this, it's a solid album, great production too! at the time of its release it was definitely a jarring follow up from the post-hardcore pop punk hybrid they had on the first album. i remember they said in later interviews that they were proud of it too, they knew it was weird and different but it's what they wanted to make at the time. for me personally i got into it later down the road as my taste expanded. those albums came out when i was in high school and now im in my mid 30s and i enjoy stuff 15 year old me didn't enjoy.

Let's get these people moving faster!

And although it was a jarring follow-up, considering they started as a Deftones cover band, it made total sense that they would be interested in pursuing that sound - even if it was always going to be less commercially successful. Though it's also unsurprising they couldn't creatively get on the same page going forward. Some bands are just better at focusing their varying tastes and influences towards a cohesive sound they can all get behind.
