haha...I chuckled at the TDAG/Deja post but then was like wait i actually think SF would have gone further. On most websites it wouldn't even be worth bringing up but it's hard to deny that this website in particular would have had one of their albums in the semis or finals for sure.

THen again I was assuming we'd get a Blink album further than we did.

I think the version released on cd by Chick in the 90s is obviously still out there, but I don't think the version with Mariah singing lead vocals on all tracks is out at all

I thought these were one in the same, she is Chick

They redid the vocals with Mariah's friend doing all the leads for Chick and released that. Mariah recently found the tapes with her doing all the lead vocals. Everything else is the same though.

Deja Entendu is over-rated to me these days even removing the allegations. A lot of kids creamed their pants over it because their audience, at the time, were mainly pop-punk/Warped Tour fans and this was their first introduction to something that was indie rock-influenced.

Pitchfork gave Deja Entendu a 6.9 which at the time was revolutionary for an AP-type album.

    Meanwhile:
Jimmy Eat World - 3.0 (Futures), 3.5 (Bleed American), 3.5 (Clarity)
Alkaline Trio - 3.2 (Maybe I'll Catch Fire)
The Get Up Kids - 2.0 (Something to Write Home About)
Rise Against - 2.9 (Siren Song of the Counter Culture)
Saves the Day - 2.9 (Stay What You Are)
    Thursday - 5.6 (Full Collapse)

As someone who only hung out in the most elite indie circles at the time, I can confirm that Brand New was the only Warped Tour-adjacent band that was considered socially acceptable to like. Very similar to Deftones and the nu-metal scene. Pitchfork definitely gave Brand New indie credibility. They also gave TDAG an 8.5, albeit retrospectively. Liking Brand New became a signal of being in the right know.

Brand New also did everything they could to distance themselves from pop punk, a smart move. Their influences they listed were the most indie cool-approved list you could think of: a cursory look on their Wiki page says The Smiths, The Stone Roses, Ride, Sonic Youth, My Bloody Valentine, Polvo, Archers of Loaf, Husker Du, Jesus Lizard, Explosions in the Sky, Sigur Ros, and... Radiohead.

Their career was the Radiohead arc for a long time. YFW = Pablo Honey, bad immature debut that is rightfully disowned by everyone. Deja = The Bends, a much more mature second album that still has a bit of mainstream traces but is noticeably more intelligent than the peers of their scene. TDAG = OK Computer, magnum opus and one of most critically acclaimed albums of all time. Daisy = Kid A, experimental follow up to the magnum opus that divided longtime fans but showed more smart musical behavior.

    Anyways
I hadn’t listened to OK Computer in a minute before this round. Radiohead in general is a band I really respect and appreciate but haven’t spent a ton of time with. Excited to really spend some time with their discography in the next few weeks

For a second I thought you were referring to the one where 25 regular posters each did 4 blurbed picks and was gonna be like “My dude…that was YOU who compiled it.” Haha

Hahaha, I do remember that! We did three installments, right? You did two, I did one? I found some great albums through that. A fun, collaborative exercise.

Yeah I did the first two passes and you resurrected it for the third.

Nobody would be surprised that I picked:

    Drawn to Revolving Doors
    52nd St
    O
The Wild, The Innocent and The E Street Shuffle

    Then:
    Stones in the Road
    What Love Has…Joined Together
    Silk Degrees
Casey Sullivan - For the Birds

    I’m consistent. Haha
