Jimmy Eat World is awesome. I literally just saw them live two days ago and they ruled. Clarity is definitely a great album. The one time I saw Radiohead live it was probably one of the best shows I have ever been to, and OK Computer is a masterpiece. I don’t think anyone is being mad, rather just stating that Radiohead is the *better/more influential/etc* band here. (Obviously people are voting based on what they like, but still)

I feel like we should do this again but individualized, meaning separate tournaments for indie rock, indie folk, hip hop, punk, pop punk, etc. because that would definitely result in lots of fun matchups. Hell, even a 2000s/2010s specific tournament for said genres would be dope. I know it’s a lot of work but it’s a cool idea.

Sorry to triple post, but this seems like the best place to share. Pitchfork is doing another readers poll, this time for the best albums of the 90s. You just make a top 10 list on their website.

Heres a thread with the link and where we can all share our top 10:

It's been fun watching phaynes squirm during Futures' run, but OKC is the much better album.

Going OK Computer. I don’t really have anything else to say about either album that hasn’t already been said. Excited to see how the poll turns out

Have voted against OKC in every round of this tournament, because I’m salty it’s the Radiohead album that outlasted the rest. But couldn’t do it here lmao.

Jimmy Eat World winning would be crazy but kinda funny, whereas Radiohead winning would mean that after all we went through the end would just be predictable and boring. I haven’t voted for either however. This is not my battle.

I know it's a different methodology / different people participating, but it's interesting how different the results of this exercise are compared with the "Definitive Album" thread a few years back.

    https://forum.chorus.fm/attachments/untitled-1-png.59395/

    The top 8 albums there were;

    1. The Hotelier - Home, Like No Place is There
    2. Bruce - Born to Run
    3. Gaslight Anthem - 59 Sound
    4. Jack's Mannequin - Everything in Transit
    5. Carly Rae Jepson - Emotion
    6. Fleetwood Mac - Rumours
    7. Neutral Milk Hotel - Aeroplane over the Sea
    8. Death Cab - Transatlanticism

    Versus the top 8 here;

    Radiohead - OK Computer
    Jimmy Eat World - Futures
    Bruce - Born to Run
    Weezer - Blue
    Smashing Pumpkins - Mellon Collie
    David Bowie - Ziggy Stardust
Jimmy Eat World - Bleed American
    The Beatles - Abbey Road

Only one crossover between the two top eights. Both of Radiohead and Jimmy Eat World had a higher performing album in the other thread (Kid A and Clarity) than in here.

How do you arrive at a top 8? As far as I understand tournaments like this, they are only suitable to determine the nr. 1, as the first album the nr. 1 knocked out could have won a contest against the other finalist etc.

Yup for sure - a bracket isn’t the same as the open list that was done in the other thread, plus here we have the restrictions of one album per year, which wasn’t the case in the other one.

Interesting (to me anyway…) how much variance there is in the results though, which is good!

Anyway Mariah Carey found and allegedly will release her 90s alt rock album so I think we should temporarily suspend this tournament

I wonder if @Aaron Mook still has the results anywhere of the AbsolutePunk version that we made in like 2015 or so? That wasn’t a bracket, but more like the definitive album thread where everyone submitted a list and then someone (pretty sure it was Aaron) compiled it into a top 25 or something. We even did blurbs and posted it on the main page.

Trying to remember what was in the top 10 but I’m drawing some blanks. I know The Devil and God was number 1, and Futures was number 2, and I know Everything in Transit, MBDTF, The ‘59 Sound, and Home Like NoPlace Is There we’re all in the top 10. Trying to remember the others. Maybe Blink’s Untitled?

Anyway, definitely interesting how the bracket makes things break down differently.

Ok, that list from AP.net was actually just albums “from the past 15 years” (so 2000 to mid-ish 2015 at the time) and here’s a Spotify playlist:

    AP.net top 50 albums 2000-2015

    Top 10:
    TDAG
    MBDTF
    Futures
    Transatlanticism
    Deja
    Home Like NoPlace
    Bon Iver, Bon Iver
    Kid A
    On the Impossible Past
    Everything in Transit

it was interesting / could tell these wouldn’t go the same way when Hounds of Love was one of the bigger albums in that older thread, albeit not too 8, and it didn’t even win its yearly thread this go round. seems like a lot of the people who voted in the “definitive” thread didn’t participate at all with the yearly threads

  23. Two sides to every coin. It might be predictable and boring because so many other sites/publications would arrive at the same conclusion, but doesn't that also support its legacy 25 years later?

Ahhh, was gonna say, no way I have the same computer and our AP.net emails are defunct, but I still would have dug like hell for this when I got home lol. Glad you found a Spotify playlist

On a scale of 1-10, how likely is it that, had Brand New not been cancelled the final would, have been TDAG vs. Deja Entendu?
