Yes Yes and Yes In FFVII we can't use a turn without it so I'm wondering if that's the reasoning, I hope they change that though. Barrett doing the theme song just reminds me of Prompto in FFXV which, although snarky at the start, got fucking annoying 50 hours in. And when was the last turn based? FFX? I miss that so damn much.
I don't remember it super well but I remember like having the option to chain actions into a turn which I thought was cool, and having limited control over the rest of your party which I thought wasn't cool
Yeah FFX was the last true turn based FF. They've gradually gone away from that since. Which is a shame to me. I get you wanna appeal to the masses and all, and keep it fresh with each one, but man I miss it. I personally really enjoyed the combat in Lightning Returns and more than any FF13 personally. Only FFs I never finished were 13-2 and 15. I may go back to 15 again someday, but doubtful. If I want my FF fix I just go back to 10 or 12 usually, but the 9 remaster is next on my list. I haven't played that since it came out. I'm gonna try out the FF7 demo tonight or tomorrow, I'm very indifferent on what I'll think of it. When they first announced the "classic" mode I was more under the impression it'd be true turn based. That doesn't seem to be the case obviously, which I'm very disappointed about. The combat does seem to be more along the lines of Lightning Returns in a way, so I may really enjoy it after all. I just still feel like I'm gonna be disappointed in the end by the game. Between the delays, it being split up and all I'm just pretty meh about it.
I really did like the battle combat style of FFXV, I just didn't think it suited a Final Fantasy game, if you get me? I usually go back to X if I ever want an FF game but I've been working my way through 7 now on the Switch. I finished the 9 remaster and the function to quicken the sequences is actually a godsend but I really enjoyed it. I haven't actually finished 7 so I'm doing that now but I don't know if I can wait between parts. It's been mentioned before but the whole having to use ATB for potions is actually a killer.
I think the potion/ATB thing is just so radical it takes getting used to. Kind of like weapon durability in BOTW. I never liked the weapon system in BOTW but I definitely got used to it and began strategizing around it. It's gonna be a motherfucker when you die in this game though because you didn't have a full ATB bar.
It's going to be a motherfucker to die, have someone with an ATB bar use a phoenix down, and then die again because you couldn't heal because you didn't have a full ATB bar I don't like it.
I don't have a PS4 and so I haven't had a chance to play the demo yet, but I'm having a hard time understanding the criticism of the ATB bar that I'm reading. FFVII had an ATB bar that had to fill before you could select a command and your characters could execute it. It seems like that's the same system that's still in place, except now you can mash buttons for some weaker attacks in between your commands. What am I missing?
Recently bought the Playstation UK Magazine and it came with 4 Final Fantasy 7 Remake coasters. Now, the coasters are very flimsy but I thought the artwork was gorgeous. Took a picture to show:
I need to get it somehow in the UK which I don't think is possible. What I don't want to happen is this takes a FFXV turn and we get productions everywhere and lose some story. Like a mobile game, an anime, a novel. I felt it was too much that could have made the in-game story richer.
Watching the final VIIR trailer and that music that plays in the background is just gorgeous. Really excited to play the remake.
Realized today I need to stop overthinking about the combat and just be excited that my favorite game/lore of all time is being recreated and fleshed out in an incredible way. Getting excited now.
I'm not gonna take it as a full remaster of the game, just a remake/reimagining given what I've heard but i'm still really looking forward to I. I was one of the few who actually enjoyed FFXV so really looking forward to the exploration and combat too.
The combat in FF7R is definitely really different from FF15. It's not as kinetic or free-flowing. It feels pretty good though, if the demo is any indication.
Posted this in the video games thread: Ordered Final Fantasy VII Remake on Amazon and it was due to be delivered on Saturday the 11th. If anyone in the UK is near an Argos within a Sainsbury's, you are able to click and collect the order now (which I've obviously just done) and cancelled Amazon.
Currently playing IX for the first time. It's really good, I dunno if I'm in love with it, the characters don't excite me a ton overall, but the scenery is gorgeous and I've come to enjoy the ability system a lot. Not as much as the growth systems in VI, VII, or X but it's fun.
I decided not to play the demo I’m really excited for the release this week. And I’ve been on a big classic JRPG kick so this is great timing.
