yeah, is it on there? how did I not know this EDIT what the hell it's been on there for like a year. Guess I know what I'm playing next!
Kinda tempted to get the FFXII remaster on switch but both times I tried playing it on ps2 I got tired of it mid way through. Is it worth it?
Yes, as with the other rereleases it has fast forward. XII definitely benefits most from the fast forward mode, I could not fathom playing that game without it. It's a great game but very different combat, almost like playing an offline MMO.
I finished the demo, ends after the Scorpion fight. I really liked the visuals and, as someone who loved Final Fantasy XV, am really on board with the combat. Saying that though, the combat feels really clunky and not as fast-paced as XV, I don't feel like we were given enough to fully judge though. I'm all on it but really don't want to wait 2-3 between "disks"
It obviously all depends on the time between releases. In a perfect world it would be like 6-8 months later but no way that happens, just give us a new part each year, however many fuckin parts its going to be.
Yeah it's tough cuz I want Laura to start with FF7 as her first FF, and it'd be cool for both of us to play the remake instead of her getting the original, but I don't want her to have to wait for the second half of it as a new player haha
I didn't love the demo. As @GBlades said, thought the combat was really clunky. Virtually every time I switched to Barret in combat, the camera would be facing him and I would have no idea what I'm shooting at. Dodging felt off, I went through like 12 potions during the Scorpion fight (Maybe I'm just really bad). Building up the ATP bar to use potions also felt like a hassle when you're almost dead and don't even know what you're fighting. It also felt pretty unresponsive, I would hit triangle like 4 times before I could finally switch to punisher mode I genuinely have no idea how they're going to be able to make a full length FF game set entirely in the city of Midgar
It is a demo but yeah omg I did not like that at all Very pretty, very clunky Also the dialogue was something else
Yeah aesthetically I liked it a lot. Barret was really clunky, Cloud I didn’t mind playing (I did take a lot of damage but figured once I get used to the controls/remap it or something it wouldn’t be so bad) The dialogue felt pretty corny, but I wasn’t sure if that was done on purpose as a nod to the original (I don’t remember any dialogue too specifically but I do remember thinking “that’s not really how people talk”), so I didn’t really mind that either
I'm still playing through the original again and I don't feel like the original is nearly as corny as this one haha But yeah I might cancel my preorder, I can see myself learning to like it but idk if I'm going to "pay $60 day 1" like it after all
I agree that remapping could be good too though. I can't imagine they'd make you stick with the scheme they have. Might also try in Classic mode just to see how it plays.
I didn't actually mind the dialogue, thought it was pretty fun and the acting was decent. I really can't imagine they'll be able to clean up the combat in any significant way before release, and I'm not sure I really want to learn to deal with it. That demo definitely convinced me not to pre-order, I'll wait for reviews now.
Sorry for so many posts but some more complaints: Magic needs to be more visual. There were multiple times I used magic and wasn't even sure if I got it off before I was hit, because you can't even see it. There needs to be iframes for shit like that as well, it's not possible to dodge in the middle of an animation, yet an enemy can knock you out of it and cancel your attack. That's pretty whack. Also Cloud's abilities are way too slow, by the time he follows through with the animation the enemy has likely moved far enough away that you'll miss.
