Oh, speaking of Dragon Quest, I'm literally counting the days until Dragon Quest VIII comes out on 3DS.

 

I might get that too. Always wanted to play that but never really got deep. I got it on PS2 just before I got my PS3, ha.

 

an open-world is good, a largely empty world is not.

and yes persona 5 will be turn based, so hype train for that is super high right now.

Persona 4 is probably my favorite JRPG of all time.

 

tbh i love turn based and kinda hate the real time shit

 

I'm not picky, if it's done right I don't care what the battle system is

 

I say that and then FF is gonna turn around an make an FPS and make me eat crow

 

I'd argue the battle system in XV isn't done right.

 

I'd agree although I still don't think there's been a large open world that I personally haven't found incredibly boring and tedious. I can see how cool they are for people who enjoy those types of games though. I'm hoping Zelda can give me the first huge open world I love.

I'm so excited for Persona 5, I've wanted to play a Persona game for so long but I could never find a copy of Persona 4 back when I was looking.

 

DQ8 is my second favorite game ever made. Speaking of turned based battle systems, they perfected it. The game is perfect.

 

But why? Did this happen because of Western RPGs? It doesn't seem like people are against it.

 

There's just not as many console JRPG's in general on consoles because they'd cost so much to make.

 

Why do they cost more to make?

 

Games in general cost a lot more to make these days then they did back in the SNES/PS1 era when those sorts of games were at their peak and since most Japanese gamers tend to play on handheld's and production costs for those consoles are significantly lower as the graphics don't need to be anywhere near the level of current consoles, that's where the majority of them have been for a while.

I just spent four hours play and did not progress the main story line at all. Good lord. Finally decided I need to move it forward so just finished chapter 3. 16 hours in. Level 28.

 

Just realized I missed the 3rd Armiger weapon. What the heck? Lol was it not a part of the main storyline?

 

There are a few that you don't get as part of the main quest.

 

I'm wondering if it's not in order (no one spoil please). I haven't gotten it yet either.

 

Okay. Just played chapter four. Now THAT was epic!!!

 

I think the battle system in FFXV is fine. I'm occasionally nostalgic for turnbased, but if you're regularly switching up weapons it's pretty fun. My biggest concern with FFVII remake is it being episodic...

 

I'm still amazed there's apparently someone named Dustin in the game

I want to find him already god dammit

 

I've pretty much always hated turn based combat so I'm really happy with the real time stuff in XV

 

I love the battle system in FFXV. How many chapters are in the game? I'm currently at chapter 5 with 14 hours.

I'm going to take a break from FF once I pick up The Last Guardian.

 

I'm right around where you are. Just started 5, gonna play a good bit tonight.

15 Chapters I'm pretty sure. But apparently there's a ton of end game content and they are coming out with a shit ton of DLC in the months ahead.
