Yeah I'm taking my time on this game with the free time I have. I've waited how long for this so why rush it? I'm 17 hours in and just hit chapter 5, but chapter 4 was the shortest of them for sure. I did all the side quest stuff and chocobo questline in chapter 3 beforehand. I love this way way more than 13, it's on par with 12 so far and that's a good thing.
About 60. I didn't plan to devote this much time to it this early, outside of taking the day of release off because I had personal days to burn, but I got so addicted this past week I abandoned all semblance of a social life to pretty much do nothing but work, eat and play this game (and this past weekend was especially bad). Even with the platinum done there's still a ton of post-game content left for me to do, the trophies barely touch on any of that stuff. I'm going to ease up on it now but there's still a lot of game left for me to finish. As I've said earlier and probably more than a few times in this thread...I really like this game.
Agreed in retrospect, but at the time I enjoyed the battle system and visuals so much that I kind of forgave it. It wasn't until later, after I slogged through XIII-2 and Lightning Returns that I realized how aggressively average XIII was. Chapter 2 is very short.
The thing I loved about XIII was how much different the game was if you played without understanding the combat. You could play through the whole game without caring too much, or you could buff/nerf/spam attacks and be successful. Obviously it doesn't work everywhere, but it made getting through most of the game really easy.
But you talk about a game with no heart and soul whatsoever. I don't even remember much about it. They just squeezed the life out of the game and you just had this pretty hollow shell and not much else. I'm glad the FF15 got back to what makes JRPG's so great. And the fact that it has sold so well should help the genre.
There were definitely some moments where the difficulty spiked in such a way that it made it tough without some heavy grinding. I remember the first fight against Barthandelus in particular being kind of a pain.
what's everyone's favorite boss fight in the series? i think mine might be the third Seymour fight in X.
That fight was so damn fun, that and Yunalesca gave me headaches forever and for that reason I love them hahaha. The latter is my favorite I think, but as far as favorite antagonist, it's definitely Kefka.
The Gilgamesh fight in Final Fantasy XII is very memorable. Pretty much all of the fights against the summons in that game were cool, though. It's definitely a tough question. Kefka is another great choice. And obviously Sephiroth. From a pure narrative perspective, the fight in IV against Dark Cecil is an all-time classic moment. Kefka is GOAT villain in the series, though, easily.
The fact that it was right after Seymour III made it so much worse too haha, dealing with his complex mechanics and then going straight to that fight was an unreal stretch of difficulty
Wait XII wasn't an online game?! I completely missed IX originally and apparently completely missed XII as well. So XI and XIV are the online ones?
Like I said above, XII is the game most deserving of being called an "offline MMO." It's literally structured almost exactly like an MMO but is single-player. Even the battle system is highly MMO-influenced.
