Clocked about 6 hours in yesterday. Level 14, knocking out sidequests and hunts in Chapter 2. Really, really enjoying it so far. Like, I found myself yesterday just running around the environment and saying to myself out loud "wow, I love this game, I'm having so much fun." I am not even a little bit disappointed. Then again, Final Fantasy games always seem to wow me, even when I'm feeling questionable about them. I mean, I even enjoyed VIII and XIII, so I guess I'm just a sucker, haha.
Yeah, I guess I was a bit strong - I know it's super useful, and I do think the crafting element is sort of neat, but I don't like the fact it's a consumable (when there's already a magic meter, albeit used for a different purpose) and aiming/having them be grenades kind of bugs me. I wish it'd be a more traditional magic system, but it's not hampering my enjoyment of the game or anything, I loooove this game. It's just mildly disappointing as someone who always loved magic users/black mages in Final Fantasy games.
How do you guys stumble upon dungeons? I would like to try some and do not want to go through the whole story without hitting any that are outside the main story.
I found one dungeon that just happened to be near a side quest marker, and a few others that I was led to a few missions deep into various side quest chains.
some are story specific (you will be forced to do them) others you will stumble upon randomly. Did some googling to see where all the dungeons are, and a lot of the optional ones seem to be lvl 50 + , so they are more for end-game/post-game content.
The optional one I did was fairly easy until the end, where there was a level 50 enemy that one shotted my whole party
Do you level up from battles, or just camping/eating? On a sidenote, was the game sponsored by Coleman camping gear? haha
Just camping/resting, you're gaining experience for battling and finishing quests but it isn't actually tallied/applied for leveling until you rest. For camping you get 1x of the experience you earned and staying at a motel/hotel/etc will give you a multiplier (usually 1.2x, 1.5x, I saw a 2x once).
Thanks. So can you camp/rest as much as you want or do you have to battle between camping in order to gain EXP?
Do camps have to be marked on your map for them to appear? I'm currently running around in the dark with a ton of EXP and can't find anywhere to camp. Also, can you only camp when it's getting dark?
You can camp as much as you want to heal your characters, but the act of camping gets you no XP, it just takes the XP you got during battles/quests and applies it to the character so you'll level. No, I've run across camps that aren't marked before, and you can camp whenever you want.
I had to drive super far to a place I couldn't fast travel, I've just been stopping along the way and killing wild animals. This game is fucked up
6.5 hours in. Level 12. Gathering info at the first tomb. Want to play more but have to get up for work in 5.5 hours!!!! I seem to have got to a point where I haven't unlocked the map enough to do the next parts of most of the side quests so time for some story advancement hopefully. So far almost all of the side characters are pretty mediocre it seems. Still having a lot of fun but miss the deep story and drive to move forward like in FFX
I love this game so far, it's one of the best looking open worlds I've ever seen. My only criticism is that it seems impossible to use magic in a battle without taking out half your teammates as well. Or maybe I just suck at using magic haha
well shit... seems like there is no turning back after chapter 9. I was hoping to do more in the Open World but it doesn't seem i'll be able to go back there till I beat the game now. OOOPSSS.
