So it’s been four days since I finished the Remake and I was just listening to MinnMax’s video discussion about the game. Really made me realize how much fun I had playing the game, how much I loved it in general, and how sad I am that it’s over.
I finally finished FFVII after 20+ years, haha. I breezed through the final bosses in a few moves, so I gave Emerald Weapon a try and was definitely not up to it
Just finished the game today and uh holy shit. That ending was wild and I’m SO curious about the next game and where they’re going with this.
Honestly loved this game, and it’s my favorite this year so far. Went in with lower expectations, but it honestly blew me away.
I'm at the chariot boss at the end (?) of the train graveyard and yeah whoever it was that mentioned this section specifically for bloat... I just want out! that and all the sewer sections
So here’s my thoughts on the game, as someone fresh out the original: This remake is truly a masterpiece for new and old fans alike. When I heard they were gonna exaggerate Midgar I initially was apprehensive. What is there to do here? We know this story, let us leave and explore the world already. I want to see Golden Saucer, Cosmo Canyon, Temple of the Ancients. I was wrong, they have made this a full-length FF game with side-quests that expands our characters, areas that expand our areas and story that expands our lore. I believe they needed to expand Midgar to show the sheer brutality of Shinra and what impact this has on the rest of the story. The way they brought Cloud and the others to life was a feat in itself. Going into this, I didn’t think I could feel any more for Jessie, Biggs and Wedge but they managed to get us to actually care about those characters and their stories. Showing President Shinra, Hojo,Rude and Reno and on the opposite side Marle, Elmyra and Jessie’s mother showed a plagued Midgar full of inequality and notable hope. New characters being introduced was a brave thing to do. The mysterious, cloaked Arbiters of Fate showed a step forward in the story, I didn’t want a full remake from the ground up. I wanted something similarly excited to play and I got that. What I didn’t like was introducing Sephiroth so early in the game and him being the final boss. I think that him taking a backseat was a wise choice BUT no idea where they will go with his own battles in future instalments. Spoilers for the end scenes but having Zack appear was both exciting and confusing. What do they plan on doing with that character?! Red XIII was a great guest character which I was gutted to not have control over. Although I can see why they didn’t do this, Red had some awesome scenes with Barret and the others. They’ve built these characters to be more substantial then their counterparts and worthy of the hype the game received. Square Enix has shifted the narrow focus of Midgar to an epic-scale of the original focusing on a scenario that will contribute to the larger story. Once I understood that this is their goal, the remake became a lot easier to grasp. The combat was a bold move. It felt like a cross between Devil May Cry and Final Fantasy XV. Using Final Fantasy XIII’s Staggering combat was a great addition but damn, was it hard to use sometimes. ATB gauges were a welcome addition and building those up could be rewarding. I mentioned when I played the demo that it sucked that you had to wait until that filled before using an item but that function added to the danger. I still would have liked to use an item without this taking up a bar on the gauge though. That being said, there were parts of the story that was lacking. Certain pacing issues come to mind such as when the rat steals they key at Corneos and other locked doors that we really did not need to spend that time with. I felt we jumped into the last few chapters way too abruptly and the story just wrapped up. Sephiroth randomly appearing at parts was awkward though, I see why it was introduced in an attempt to further the story and add some mystery however it was a little frustrating. The camera was a massive problem. I struggled to see enemies outside my own POV and it was stuck at times. I liked the difficulty of strategising, the materia was worked in well (but I felt there was way too much to work with) and the game was visually attractive. The lack of post-game content is understandable with where this has left off but Chapter Select should tide my over whilst I try and get the Platinum. Going to try and go over the story aspect more because there's more going on here than I initially caught onto. I’m excited to see where this goes because it’s became a quick favourite and I might even start FFVII again.
I just realized the Turks are probably the beginning ideas of the ORG in KH. They're pretty similar. Oh Nomura.
The music in this damn game... It's pure perfection. Beginning of chapter 9 it's like I'm watching a late 80', early 90's coming of age movie. haha
Yeah this game has some of the best music of any FF game. And yeah a big part of that is the strength of the original soundtrack but still.
There are some really weird design choices. There is a battle at the Colosseum with Aerith that only can be played later in the game, when you don't have her anymore. You have to go back to play it in the postgame, but that chapter includes going through the entire highway sequence with the arms and the bandits. You also have to do a bit of the sequence to get into Corneo's mansion to even unlock the Colosseum. I am disappointed that the last set of Shinra challenges are locked behind hard mode. If I paid for the game, why lock away that content? Hard mode is there for people who want it, but I have no interest in that sort of challenge.
Yeah, I read fully maxing out your weapons can only be done by completing hard mode too. I personally love a challenge and will play it all again, but I could see how that would be unsatisfactory for most. Hell House wasn't that hard for me either. This game has really weird difficulty spikes.
Really surprised at some of these streamers having trouble with some of these bosses. I beat Abzu, Hell House and pretty much every other boss first try. Only one I died on was the VR Fat Chocobo because he doesn't have any elemental weaknesses. Staggering from magic is hella overpowered.
I messed up on my playthrough and didn’t start grinding out my Raise materia early, so I couldn’t fight Bahamut. I need to go back and play some Hard mode to at least experience the fight.
Same, currently in Ch. 14 enjoying the side quests. I'm bummed cause I know after this it's pretty linear to the end. It was just really feeling like it was about to open up. Gets me really hyped for the next game in the hopes it's true open world. I mean if they can do it with FF15 I see no reason it won't work and be better in FF7R pt. 2
FUCK I think my game locked up. I'm in Chapter 16 in the shiner building crawling through the ducts. Look down at the couple talking and now I'm stuck there. It won't let me back out of looking down. I think my last proper save was back in chapter 14 FUCK
