It is pretty hilarious the "president on remaining anonymous" part as you can't deny the voice is Charlie.
This is clearly an unpopular opinion, but I think it's okay for them to be theatrical about themselves if they're having fun doing it.
The reason it works so well for sleep token is because Vessel wasn’t a name before sleep token. Everyone knows this dude
The way I'm thinking about it is the way I think about the current iteration of Static-X. Everyone knows Xer0 is Edsel Dope, but they've refused to confirm it because it's not meant to be Edsel up there, it's meant to be an avatar for performing Wayne's songs. Charlie doesn't have to acknowledge anything if he feels it misses the point of what they're trying to do, and that's a totally fair and valid way to go about trying to keep the attention on the band and not who is in it. That his voice is recognizable to fans of the scene is really irrelevant.
Next PRESIDENT single "Fearless" will hit YouTube on June 5th. Midnight June 6th for those in England.
Yeah, I'm not sure these guys will ever be Fightstar good but I really like the song, aside from the dumb little "FEAR LESS" chant that definitely reminds me of the silly ones BMTH would have in their songs. Looking around, I've seen pretty much unanimous hate for the cheer part, does anyone ever like those? I don't know why bands keep doing them.
I think they missed a trick by not unveiling Ed Sheeran under the mask, personally. I really like the new track. Chanting is awful, but the rest I can really get behind. Can’t wait to see some live videos of their set
They never should have allowed white people to crank up the autotune EDIT: I kind of hate this but also… like it?
This song is fine but I think the first one was a lot better. I hope this is actually leading up to a full length album and we don't just end up with an EP and then nothing else from Charlie for several years but more Busted shows
I've been relistening to Fightstar's discography this week and my view on it has totally changed over the years. Initially I thought Behind the Devil's Back was their weakest album by far but now I'd probably say it's my second favourite after Grand Unification. I like the electronic elements and how heavy it is in places. One Day Son used to rank higher for me but "Unfamiliar Ceilings" is such a dud, the worst song of their career, the female vocals are so corny and cheesy and out-of-place, it ends the album on a bad note. "Zihuatanejo" should've been the closer. Grand Unification Behind the Devil's Back One Day Son, This Will All Be Yours Be Human All are great though, I still really hope we get a couple more albums from them eventually. Although admittedly it's not promising that it's now been a decade since their last release. The fact that Charlie is doing a different heavy rock project with President makes me suspect that maybe the other guys in Fightstar don't want to write new Fightstar music/revive the band fully for whatever reason.
I love "Unfamiliar Ceilings" haha. "Amaze Us" is probably my least favourite on there but the title track on Behind the Devil's Back is my least favourite song they've ever done but even that's solid. That and "Gracious" are probably the only two that I don't love.
I never really think about “Unfamiliar Ceilings” and then it comes on and I’m transported back to the pre album release cycle where Charlie was hyping it as the most personal song he’s ever written. I love how different that sound was for them at the time - I’ll always have a lot of love for that track.
Any thoughts on this article? Could this have led to PRESIDENT being the final project? Busted reveal they're working on new music with Jordan Fish
Didn't think of that. I wouldn't be surprised if they weren't able to release that material under Busted and came up with all that President stuff instead. Charlie being inspired by his stint on The Masked Singer to build up the mystery aspect... may be a reach, but weirder things have happened so who knows
It blows my mind that Charlie was only 21 or 22 years old when Grand Unification was released. Such a great album!
There are people out there legitimately seeing the reveal at the end and going, “oh, so it’s not Charlie Simpson, interesting”. Bro has one of the most identifiable voices in rock and is trying so hard to get people to pretend it’s not him. Music is fine. but the timing is kind of annoying with Ghost and Sleep Token at their peaks of popularity, and it feels like Charlie going, “Hey I think I could do that.”
