Yeah, the one disappointing thing about all this. After Ghost and Sleep Token, I feel like it’s over done.

 

I don't really mind the marketing, it's clearly working in terms of drawing attention to the project. Maybe it helps that I don't really pay any attention to the other masked bands.

 

I do admit, if this had anyone else as the vocalist I probably wouldn’t be into it. But I’m not into heavier music in general, so you basically have to give me Charlie and all his melodic pop sensibilities as the conduit to get me into music with a heavier foundation.

If every song has this same vocal effect I can see it growing stale, but that’s not even a fair comment. We’ve heard one song - I’m sure an EP or album will go in an assortment of directions and I’m excited for that. Just nice to have another Charlie project that isn’t Busted or lying dormant.

 

Charlie over this type of music sounds great. Good intro song and I’m curious to hear more.

 

This just brought me back to Fightstars first ep, totally forgot how great Mono is

 

The song already has more views on YouTube than any of the singles from his last solo record and its not far off the last Fightstar singles.

 

I wonder how far they can go with their concept without getting into troubles. Remember United Nations lol

At least "rallies" and "uniforms" are vague enough and anyone, regardless of their political ideology, can feel like they belong

If they're ready for a headlining show hopefully that means they've got an album ready too. They must have at least 10 songs to play right?

 

The footnote reads like NIN's Year Zero CD sticker (NIN: US Bureau of Morality) and probably many other artists doing similar dystopian promo stuff.

But then right after to have "Live Nation" is uh, what it is.

Between the new Architects and trying out Sleep Token I'm tired out on "processed" heavy music, so not into this right now. Ditto on the rally gimmick.

Discovering sometime ago that Fightstar had a record after Be Human which I managed to miss left me pretty stoked. Hope they come back (and a bit rawer than this).

Good at least that Charlie's keeping in touch with making heavy music.

 

Live Nation bit is fucking hilarious

 

Yeah on the basis of the first single this isn't going to be for more. Marketing is marketing and you've got to play the game, I just don't like the song. Really hope we're not getting a thousand Sleep Token copycats over the next few years.

 

Not a massive fan of the gimmick, but I prefer that song to any of the shite Sleep Token tracks I've been subjected to over the last year or two. His voice is just really well suited to heavier music.

 

I've been trying not to listen to the single much but I've heard it quite a few times now and it's only grown on me. I really love the sound and more electronic tint, I'm excited to see what else they can do. I can even imagine them potentially making something like "Flotation Therapy" which has always been one of my favourite Fightstar songs, and a vibe I wanted them to explore more.

I'm wondering if the whole thing is going to be conceptual and the song itself is written from the perspective of the President character rather than Charlie as a person. I think that makes sense lyrically and could lead to some interesting storytelling, maybe a full concept album?

I'm also very glad that Charlie does have other musical plans aside from just Busted in the near future despite being very excited for their next album and tour. He's been a lot less productive over the last 10 years which makes sense but I'm happy to see him still trying new things.

 

I’m interested to know if this involves the other guys from Fightstar. Or is it an entirely new band? And if it doesn’t involve the other guys from Fightstar, why? I have a lot of questions about this project haha

 

Yeah, I'm curious too. I'm guessing it doesn't but who knows. Dan and Al are following the band on Instagram but Charlie isn't, whether that means anything I don't know haha.

 

i think this would have been the direction fightstar would have gone after BTDB, anyway.
i like it so far. let's see what the rest of the EP/LP has to offer.

 

Just threw on the first Fightstar album for the first time in a while... and man, that record is still a thing of beauty for the ears.

 

I never listened to Fightstar much, I plan to, but I really dig this new song. That said, the entire vibe of this project is just annoying as hell. I feel like for now at least this type of marketing and presence is overdone and can't avoid criticism of trying to use that hype train.

 

Also I get the dude is supposed to look creepy, but it just looks like the main character from Team America.

 

I love Charlie, but this is all I think of when I see President

 

this is how he's going to feel a few songs into the set at Download. I can't imagine performing with that mask on in the middle of summer.

 

Yeah, not a fan of the mask at all tbh haha.

 

I think he's gonna take the mask off as a big reveal during a live show (probably Download). Unlike with Sleep Token, the anonymous gimmick can't last forever since a lot of people know it's Charlie. There are people who don't and I think that's partly why they've marketed President the way they have, it gets those people excited without the baggage of Busted or Fightstar (which I think is smart if they're gonna make a push for America).

Anyway song is good, looking forward to more.

 

idk, I think he plans on sticking to it. I'm sure he is aware that people will know it's him so it's probably less of an anonymity thing and more about wanting to play a certain character.
