  1. It was only a matter of time - commendable performance by the Egyptians but Uruguay just too tough

  4. this result is gonna make the Russia-Egypt match even more interesting - I still think Egypt could advance out of this group. Does Salah have a chance to play at all or is it a match by match kind of deal?

Egypt may get toasted by Russia now. They're gassed. Put all their money on drawing here.

Yeah we have a female commentator called Jacqui Oatley who was reporting pitchside on the opening game here in the UK.

I remember when in 2009 she got her first major commentating job, one newspaper (referring to legendary commentator John "Motty" Motson) ran the headline "From Motty To Totty".

Glad to see things are moving on.

Aly's done Lady Nat games for years and she's fantastic. Very happy for her. Hoping she gets some better match-ups as the tournament progresses, but can't deny the pleasure I get from this one, haha.

We actually have quite a lot of women on the World Cup team this year, as this article points out.

"Oatley is just one of many female presenters, pundits and commentators who will ensure that more female voices are heard in the UK from this World Cup than ever before. On the team with Oatley at ITV the reporter Seema Jaswal and the England striker-turned pundit Eniola Aluko.
On the BBC, Gabby Logan – a longtime occasional presenter of Match of the Day – Gary Lineker, while former England and Arsenal defender Alex Scott is among the pundits and the experienced football reporter Vicki Sparks will become the first woman to commentate at the World Cup.

Meanwhile, the former England striker Kelly Smith features again for Fox Sports as a “soccer analyst”, and the Argentinian journalist Viviana Vila will cover the competition for the Spanish-speaking US sports network Telemundo Deportes."

Some great pressing from Morroco, and both teams have had chances. This is an interesting match. Rooting for Iran because my dad lived there between ages 10 and 14.

How Iran aren't winning I don't know. They have far more cutting edge, but they just lack finishing.

Extra flop to earn a card and the ref missed the slight groin shot that Suarez gave the Egyptian defender. Can't stand that guy.

Both very defensively solid teams usually. They haven't been here but was always a top bet for 0-0.

I'm glad the physio's forced that Moroccan player to come off. He wasn't at all with it.

I really wanted to be gutsy and pick one of these teams to advance over spain/Portugal

Both teams seem fine, but honestly, I can't see either of these teams getting results against Spain. Maaaaybe one could scrape a 0-0 vs Portugal but I don't see it.

This is the group I am most excited to watch I think. Ziyech & Jahanbakhsh are kings but neither of their sides has the quality to finish above Spain or Portugal though.
