just a win. Draw can’t be enough, win will always be enough. Only thing the other game can possibly determine is if we get first or second

That's what I get for watching my first soccer game since the 2014 World Cup.

Gregg handled that game excellently. I’ve been very critical of him, but he made every correct decision today start to finish.

Honestly just glad neither side picked up any injuries. Its always so frustrating. Aside from that Ill take the draw. But with the way Iran played against Wales, Im honestly not too confident we’ll win. We cant score for shit.

  8. Can’t wait to see how the US fucks this up against Iran

Does Iran doing well hurt or help the protests? I want to root for them against the US but I’m seeing conflicting things

Im feeling pretty confident this will happen lol i think Iran is going to be physical in ways that we didnt see against wales/englad aaaaand i dont see the guys responding to that too well. I do love being wrong, though.

I’m more worried about the ref in the Iran game than the actual 11v11. It’s set up for some major shady action and I’m definitely a conspiracy theorist haha

  13. The players were sympathetic towards to the Iranian leadership before leaving for Qatar and most of the protesters want them to lose.

If you told me before this that we would draw England, I would have jumped at that. But now having to win against Iran is not as clear as I would like.

This isn’t strictly true. It’s a lot more nuanced and divided than that.

Many fans feel they should have been kicked out, kind of like Russia, because of what is happening. Because they have been hesitant to criticise the regime, they have gotten a lot of criticism but it’s also mentioned that the players probably aren’t doing so for their own safety.

Ultimately, players have made statements whilst at the tournament that has seen some of the Iranian people warm to them. But it’s very divided.

My dad grew up in Iran and has friends over there still and he has been speaking to them about it.

Memories are nice, but that's all they are. Prestigious

I just hope US doesn’t have an emotional comedown game against Iran. Go win this. Please.
Genuinely enjoyed the game. Two quality teams. Plenty of decent chances

    Spurs plz sign McKennie

  19. Yeah, I’m just basing off what my girlfriend tells me tbh lol she grew up there and all her family is still there. She’s said some have warmed up to them but a good chunk are still upset about what they said prior to leaving. It wasn’t that they were hesitant, a few of the players praised the leaders and bowed to them. And I get the pressure they’re under to do that and probably did it so they were allowed to actually go. But the argument from the protestors is that so many are risking/giving their lives while some of the players bow to the leaders to their face and then when they’re away and “safe” they start to speak out.

It’s complicated for sure. Even the people who said they hope the team loses probably can’t help the emotion of seeing them win to an extent. It’s just another example of sports washing in a way.

Didn’t start Ted Lasso until S2 so I had seen enough of Grealish at City and told that to my girlfriend. After seeing him during the championship parade it was confirmed for me.
