ah they can still get in if Algeria loses by 2 or or Croatia loses by 3 (and none of the other lower teams jump them), right? I really don't like the whole "top 8 of 12 advance". But not sure how you fix it. I guess groups of 3 but that has its own share of problems. Or expand the field to 64 lol
Tbh I don’t think anyone likes it. It was better when it was just 32 teams but it’s 100% going to 64 by 2034.
I don’t like the idea of 32 teams advancing, but also… I am not complaining about the quantity and quality of soccer we’ve had these past few weeks
Spain is always hilarious to me because every tournament it’s 9 grown men and 2 teenagers that are somehow the best players on the team for like 5 tournaments now.
I’m hanging with New Zealand supporters rn and also see the upside of more teams for sure. Just wish it wasn’t all funneled through an org as evil as FIFA
He should’ve been off an hour ago on yellow accumulation. Wild it took to 94’ for a straight red. Scummy.
If somehow they can pull off the upset though... That quadrant is looking pretty weak. They pull off a couple more strong defensive performances, get lucky with some penalties... Semis are not out of the realm of possibility for them
The plan was groups of 3 when the extra teams were introduced, and then the last world cup had so much 3rd day drama they changed it. I dislike the head to head though. They said it removes 'fluke' high scores, but what if the head to head is a fluke game? Goal difference should come back. Seems much fairer in my opinion.
They should say fuck it and do 8 groups of six. Top 3 teams in the group advance. 1s get byes into the knockouts Yeah it's a bunch more games and draws out the tournament but why is that a bad thing?
My highlight of the night, aside from Trossard scoring twice, was the two New Zealand players wrestling with each other for the first Belgium goal. Top defending.
Saying "No one could see it coming" about Reece James getting injured is genuinely one of the dumbest comments I've heard a manager say. Chelsea's medical team literally forced the managers to only use him once per week. Who would have thought playing him two games in a row would go badly?
