USA have been pretty good and Australia have been absolutely terrible. Can’t see them coming back from a two goal deficit.
He literally runs towards the keeper and jumps for the ball. He is just a bit too late. Clear impeding.
Big fan of this guy dressed like crocodile Dundee with an Australian flag cape dancing around this watch party
Impeding isn't just actually touching the ball though. He's offside, and makes a play on the ball. He makes a run. Both the defender and GK have to account for him, affecting their split second decision making. It's affecting the play. Maybe they still score without that, who knows. But it's still impacting play and should be offside.
I guess I just disagree that his presence influenced the keeper’s actions. The keeper was going to run that direction regardless. And he was able to do so. The offside player didn’t affect his decision to run toward the ball, his ability to run toward the ball, or his ability to attempt a play on the ball.
Yeah I get that, agree to disagree. It's just the type of call that I really hate. Football is played so fast that a split second decision of knowing whether there's 1 or 2 players to account for can have a huge impact. Having to consider - am I going to get clattered from the side/behind? Do I need to jump or punch in a specific direction? Which direction the ball might go in if either player wins the header? Etc. That tiny bit of hesitation impacts the play, and can result in a goal.
While debateable, i feel that 2nd US goal would be called offside the majority of the time in a premier league game for the 2nd player being so close to the finish / goalkeeper while starting offside. But just my opinion. Obviously all American commentary but shows a lack of honesty / game sense to not even discuss that and dismiss it so quickly. EDIT - i am also biased against all American commentary teams in general. Just feels wrong the way they talk about the sport half the time.
