Wish a better team was in the finals. Spaniards gotta feel pretty fat and sassy right now.

For everyone who has been active in this thread/lurking — the soccer thread regulars have a little tradition for big tournaments where we do a draw for each team and then all choose a local to us charity who the rest donate $5 to. Figured I’d give it a shout in here if anyone else wants to donate to celebrate. The regular thread will have more info.

also just join us this sport is awesome

Not sure Simon or Rodri should have won those awards if they are the the tournament as a whole, but i also can’t imagine them giving awards to people who aren’t there to receive them

Simon only conceding one goal was basically a shoe in.

my bias is Messi was the best player overall, but Rodri certainly isn’t undeserving

I think it should have been Mbappe, tbh

Going strictly on GA sure, but Martinez made more saves today than Simon did the entire tournament. And yes, Messi would have been my golden ball winner too. Would have also put Mbappe, Haaland, Bellingham over Rodri. But again, can’t consider those dudes who aren’t there.

I wish that graph had country codes.

I dont have country codes, but this shows average score per team:

Argentina topping is a little surprising, but I guess its because of their dramatic comebacks vs. Egypt, England etc.

Zlatan quitting punditry abruptly on air like he did is perfect. Especially after so much time spent next to Alexi. Love him.
