It is, I think I read something about how he talked about it and how he said this is what makes him feel confident and he's struggled with it for a long time. Edit: USMNT legend Landon Donovan comes clean about his hair struggles - and shares his transformation to the world
I know they made it to the semis but Tuchels squad selection was such shit. A big reason they didn’t have the juice to close out a game like this imo.
I disagree. I see it as lack of preparation. You know Argentinas game plan. I don't think it's impossible to stop it.
I said this to Nick in a text, but Argentina really goes to show you just how much some of Ronaldo’s teammates must hate him.
chasing the game in a World Cup semi final and you’re stoppage time final throw of the die is crossed into the box by Ezri Konsa if that isn’t a perfect summation of what’s been wrong with the Tuchel appointment from day one I’m not sure what is
I feel genuine sadness for the England players. After a long season, and then losing a semi-final, you make them play the most pointless game known to civilisation. Absurd.
Firstly, fuck Bellingham so much. He continued again to be a dick and didn't get booked. Unlucky Jude. My head would be on mars if I was an England fan. I don't particularly think they played well again (and again and again) but to take the lead with your literal moment of quality and then sit on your box for 30+ minutes is suicidal. Konsa on for Gordon was a mental sub when you've got Rashford or even Madueke to use as counter attack out-balls. 12% possession after scoring is genuinely embarrassing for a team that has the quality that they do in their team whilst having obvious defence weakness. Spence played extremely well and can keep his head up but Tuchel bottled it. Argentina were shelling crosses in and it seemed that MacAlister one off the post spooked him to tighten up with Burn on etc but that just opened up outside the box for long shots and space for Messi. Really really poor.
England did what they always do, which makes me think it has nothing to do with coaching and is the ingrained English mentality.... They go a goal up against a better or equal team then they defend!! Im so sick of that shit. Awful, gutless, spineless, tactics. Its Argentina. One goal is not enough... No controversy, no luck, just a sad usual performance when the stakes get high. Im tired of England scraping by and being so pathetic in spirit when it matters. EDIT - subs sucked but Tuchel saying if we lose, we do it our way after Croatia is... a big pile of doo doo in hindsight. Im so mad.
This is my biggest gripe with him. In the heat of a match, I can understand making the wrong call on the spot. I cannot understand him taking such a horrible squad. Two right backs, and when one is injured on the eve of the tournament he picks a 5th centre back instead, despite James being made of glass. England’s best right winger had a long running injury that meant be barely got to play, and Tuchel brings Madueke as the only other natural right winger? Ivan Toney brought along solely for penalties and then brought on instead of Watkins. Henderson taking up a place just so he can bring the vibes. Bringing along Mainoo despite clearly not fancying him at all and refusing to ever use him. None of it makes sense to me
Being retroactive about the squad is an excuse for the game at hand. We had enough weapons and time to win.
One thing I’ve thought about a bunch is that Enzo probably attempted that exact same goal 4-5 times before it went in. Clearly something they identified in the defense/Pickford.
Meh. This was the best world cup of my life personally, but im still mad. Its been 5 tournaments for England (and more i guess...). They rarely win playing for wins or ties against better teams and the 1st goal is a poisoned chalice. This has been a great thread. Ill hang around for the final but this is a tough one.
