Senegal walked off the pitch due to a dodgy penalty in stoppage time. Felt very fixed in real time. Brahim missed the penalty and Senegal went on to win after coming back out. (Edit: 2025 Africa Cup of Nations final - Wikipedia has a match summary that mentioned things I forgot.) Check out the Moroccan ball boy behavior complaints for multiple games. Dodgy calls. The tournament was just very clearly… designed.
It would be great for a non European or South American team to win it finally, but when you look at the Morocco squad like 70% of them came through French and Spanish academies anyway, which makes it slightly less cool.
I swear this tournament has brought out the most irrational of people. RE England - Quansah just got a 2 game ban instead of 1, and honestly, fair? He slid in at high speed, no control, and while the ball was touched, his leg went straight up, studs out, into the leg of the Mexican player. Everything that constitutes reckless, despite there not being a serious outcome. Now the English reddit is whining about corruption, how it's another decision for Argentina (he isn't even a starter when the team is healthy) and that it was the flat out wrong decision and possibly not even a red card to begin with. Every fan has the attitude of 'if it benefits my team, it's right, if it doesn't it's wrong' and then flipping that logic for calls for the other team. I swear people used to watch games objectively, argue with logic and sanity and not whine and cry about every single decision. Yes - Trump really fucked up saying he called Fifa (ugh) but take off your country's kit and have some common sense about these things.
