Like most, I’m not a fan of Alexi Lalas. But I gotta say, Henry and Zlatan have been such pricks toward him and it’s a bad look imo. And I get why it’s entertaining for a lot of people. It was for me at first. But it seems like it’s every day for them. And I don’t know. Just feels unprofessional.
Timing of today’s games, and the entire tournament, is such shit. No consistency, so random, and even someone like me who has tried to watch every game loses track. Just make them 1, 4, 7, and 10. wtf.
Man Switzerland would be a world beater if they had a finisher. Soooo many missed chances throughout the tournament.
Yea... I honestly don't know what the solution is for VAR in the future. It's bizarre when they don't even take a second look (like right now), and I hate that the majority of the time, looking at the video means a reversal is coming. In the NFL (sorry Europeans), it's often a confirmation that it's a gut decision and 50/50, and the on field is confirmed. Human judgement always needs to be considered when it's that close and the ref shouldn't just say 'well the boss called, I must be wrong'. I don't want them to look at everything, especially if it pulls the ref on the field, but the lack of consistency on when it's used, and then it normally always leading to a change in opinion just doesn't seem to be the right way. I guess I want a faster way for more to be reviewed, and the referee to apply judgement without the review becoming microscopic and a freeze frame analysis. EDIT - Also maybe I'm wrong, but my gut tells me that nearly every time the ref has gone to the video he's reversed his call even when it's not clear and obvious they were wrong.
Gotta do a challenge system like MLB or the NFL. Give the captains or managers two challenges per game, and they keep the challenge if they’re correct. Make offside and goal line decisions automatic. Boom solved.
Agreed in theory, but how does it work in practice? Can't have a rule that draws a literal line about where you can stand, and then is somehow up for interpretation?
regardless of where you draw the line, its going to be possible to be a few millimeters on the wrong side of the line
Booooooooooooooooooooooooooo I don't know why, but I really dislike Switzerland and consider them as boring and an eyesore.
France vs Morocco Spain vs Belgium Norway vs England Argentina vs Switzerland Not sure how many would have predicted those last two.
Final 8 ranked by who I'd want to see win: Norway Morocco England Belgium Swiss France Spain Argentina
I think Norway were a lot of people's dark horses. They cruised through qualifying. Switzerland, no way people would have sanely or logically put them in their quarters. It could be FIFA's top 4 in the rankings for the Semis but I'm sure there will be at least 1 upset.
For me: Morocco Norway Belgium Argentina Swiss England Spain France I love Argentina so I could easily move em to 2nd but I really just want new, preferably non-euro teams to win. I agree with the previous take that the Swiss are boring though, just a perennial also-ran that’d feel like a fluke. At least Norway have haaland (and the best kit in the cup).
