Yes yes I know it’s impossible wishful thinking on my part but let me dream about honor still being a “thing”
Sit Balogun, sub him on at 86:47, score the GW goal and rip off his jersey to show a T-shirt saying 14th Amendment American, gets a red for excessive celebration, and misses next game.
I’m not turning a blind eye to how bad it is that Trump got involved because I agree with the final outcome. I’m aware of every single bad optic it brings and the precedent it sets. I’m just not entirely sure it’s as massive of a problem as it’s being made out to be because I also don’t think this is the first time governments have successfully pushed on the scale with FIFA. It’s just the first time a narcissistic asshole with the inability to shut up and not try to gain credit has done it. Hopefully, and I hope some lawyer in the bureaucracy portion of FIFA gets it there, to avoid this in the future they develop an appeal process that is clear to all nations involved ASAP. Hand waving powers with secret tribunals are not good for anyone. Transparency is 100% important for fixing this.
I am am refusing to go on Threads / Twitter / Bluesky until the world cup is over. The amount of stupid politics based posts is insane. 'BuT WhAt ABouT THe WoMen's WOrlD CuPss???' 'WhO ColoNizEd tHE LeAst?? TheY HaVe My SuPpORt!!' Get out of here with that brain rot. And then there's the actual dumb football takes on top of that. The ability for social media and the ragebait algorithm to attempt to destroy anything and everything I'm interested in, is undefeated. I promise you that you can just watch a ball be kicked for 90+ minutes for entertainment.
FIFA literally can’t help themselves with making themselves not look bad. Just release all the information used to make the decision. It’s that simple! My main hope tonight is that, if he does play (and he probably will), it doesn’t turn into something where he’s injured on purpose.
Yeah I see this as a win win scenario. I don’t understand the hate boners here for Trump. For all his sins this isn’t one of ’em. That dude is so self absorbed and spends so much time scrolling social media that he probably saw this as an easy win. Call up FIFA over what has been widely considered a bullshit call, put some pressure on them, and USA fans get their best finisher back. What fan wouldn’t want their politicians putting pressure on these corrupt organizations to fix BS like that card? And now it’s overturned. Super rad. If anything he’s highlighting how corrupt FIFA is yet again, which should also be a win. This entire shitstorm falls solely at the feet of Infantino and FIFA. Plus with all the shit stirring from other countries’ FAs there will probably be some kind of appeals process added to avoid these situations moving forward. Which is funny considering VAR should already be mitigating this stuff anyway (LOL). Any opportunity to put more heat, pressure, and accountability on the refs is a win in my book.
Yeah, I don’t want anyone to get injured, but I do hope this makes the match an absolute war lol. As someone who supports neither team, I want needle, fights, cards, tackles flying in, etc
What’s funny is none of this was gonna be necessary for that because that 2014 matchup is US soccer legend at this point. The decision to leave Donovan home coming to the head in Wondo missing the GW sitter in the 92’, Julian Green scoring a wonder goal and then never playing for the US again, Tim Howard’s save record. Like. This was gonna be massive anyway.
I’m saw someone describe Odegaard’s performance yesterday as a footballing IQ test and they’ve probably never felt more vindicated than now lol
It's actually kinda wild that Spain struggles more with Portugal than they do with France in all the recent H2Hs. Today could be a real stormer.
Anthony Taylor on the whistle tonight so no doubt more aggro. He loves to make the game about himself.
I’m sorry, but Balogun playing is the most ridiculous thing I’ve ever seen on a World Cup, and even if the states win, it’s not honest. Who wants to win cheating? It’s just against all rules. It’s ridiculous.
Like I’ve said before, this is the right outcome with the most asinine way of achieving it. So, I feel better that balogun can play, but feel worse that it happened this way #conflictedfeelings
C’mon, you think this is ok? The way this has been handled? You think this should happen all the time? Why have rules in the first place?
