I def think a lot of bands that dropped still might play. But its hard to play your schedule a year in advance, especially with a global pandemic still raging and so no clear picture what the world will look like in a year.
Well we all knew it was just an eventuality, but I'm grateful that there isn't anymore uncertainty surrounding it. I was beginning to have the if it happens should I go or not discussions. Stoked to see Larry Limbs added for 2021 but also bummed we lost some of the 2020 line-up. Are y'all going to hold onto your passes for next year or request a refund? Since I've already paid for mine, I figure I'm going to desperately want to go next year no matter the rest of the line up so I think I'm holding onto mine.
I'm probably going to be holding onto mine for next year. Need to confirm with my partner that she's still interested in going, haha. I think she will be. But one of her biggest draws was Samiam so... We'll see. Given that everything in 2020 has effectively been cancelled, being able to look ahead and say we have two music festivals lined up for next fall will help us to stay motivated throughout the rest of the pandemic. Hah.
Definitely keeping my tickets for next year. Will probably use the flight credit we got for next year as well, not sure I want to do much traveling until then anyway.
A bunch more bands added including The Wonder Years, I Am The Avalanche, Spanish Love Songs. Passes back on sale next week.
The Wonder Years don't quite make up for the Flats not being there, but it's a solid add! Especially if it winds up being an Upsides set. Real stoked about Spanish Love Songs being added (thought it was weird they weren't on the initial 2020 line-up, TBH). And I'm really happy to see I Am The Avalanche, Weatherstate, and Suck Brick Kid. Awesome that they were able to re-add the Copyrights, We Are the Union, and Skatune Network too! October 2021, here we come!
I think the combination of Larry Arms, TWY, Spanish, and IATA make it up for me haha but still not seeing Cavalcade at Fest is a huge bummer. I feel like when they play in 2022 they'll probably do a Cavalcade set to make up for it though
Fair point. I think it's my age, as far as the Wonder Years goes. I like them quite a bit, have all the records, etc. but they didn't grab me in the huge way that they did some of the people who are just a few years younger than me. I'm real excited about getting all those bands too, but... Still. I need a Cavalcade set sometime in 2021! And I don't care how it happens! It does and it doesn't surprise me. I'm sure the Wonder Years have tried getting on the festival before, and likely got denied. They can be a little strange/picky about who they book, and in interviews I know Tony has said that it sometimes takes the right timing for him to feel like the band is a good fit. And that he sometimes needs to let trends pass before he can objectively hear a band for the quality they provide (he cited third-wave ska bands as an example; Fest didn't book ska bands for years). I think Fest has been slowly edging toward being more accepting of bands of their ilk over the last few years. Which is a good thing... I've always felt like Bayside and the Wonder Years were two bands that would fit perfectly. The popularity bit is weird. The Wonder Years are undeniably a more popular band in the grand scheme of things, but bands like the Lawrence Arms, the Menzingers, Teenage Bottlerocket, Cursive, etc. are probably more popular as far as that specific festival is concerned. It's very much "their" world and the Wonder Years are just stepping into it. Haha.
When did the Menzingers get taken off the lineup? I don't remember that happening but I must have missed it somehow. Been thinking this whole time they were playing but I guess not lol. Sorry for the bump that I know is going to make people think new bands got announced!
Damn. Glad I wasn't going nuts with not remembering it happening ha. Fingers crossed they get added back and/or we get a few sick additions. Still so excited and cautiously optimistic that this will actually happen, my first damn FEST!
You should make it a point to get some late night dogs from the hot dog guy and to attend the purge at the Wyndham hotel. And to also get lit standing in the wristband line. Wait for it to get kinda long and then roll up with beers and hang out. Grab some slices if needed as well.
Hell yeah, all great tips! Nothing sounds better than getting wasted while standing in a line lol. Do ya'll normally just stay at one of the hotels they provide? As of now it's just going to be my gf and myself so I'm not sure if we should go for that or find an Airbnb. I think Airbnb could be cheaper but not sure if it's worth being further from the action.
I’ve always stayed at the Wyndham bc it has a free shuttle from the hotel to downtown and vice versa. This year, the Wyndham is now going to be where they do the rest bands, flea market, and the line. It used to be downtown at the Holiday Inn. The Wyndham is like 8 minutes out from downtown. There is a hotel near the big stage downtown that is more quiet and pricy. There are the two fest hotels mentioned above. And then there are air bnb’s. I know groups that do those and it seems to work for them. It really depends on which experience you want I guess.
If you're looking to save money a bnb is definitely the move, but if you're looking for more of a party vibe then I suggest the wyndham The wristband line beers / the flea market / pool party are the best kick off to the weekend possible
One of the more underrated things we lost from last year was not getting lit in the wristband line and then making questionable flea market purchases.
