I would consider flipping Spanish sets. Spanish is one of the more hyped bands playing and their mystery sets can be hard to get into without committing to it super early and missing other cool stuff.
SLS has also stated several times how glad they are to be playing outside and how they feel bad for everyone playing indoors at Fest so I don’t think they will do a secret set
Am I the only one who gets too stressed out about trying to get into the surprise sets that I've just never bothered?
By the size of some lines, yes. There have def been some secret sets that I have just skipped bc I was watching other stuff instead of standing in the line. Only secret set I tried for and didn’t get into was Spanish at The Atlantic (rip).
Alright, maybe I should consider swapping Joystick for SLS...I might be trying to be too crafty. Getting into mystery sets hasn't stressed me out yet, probably because I haven't been burned by missing out yet. Only one I didn't get into was AM! at The Wooly at Fest16, but that year I went to pre-fest and saw them headline 2 nights in Tampa so when they announced the mystery set we went to The Wooly to check it out and the line was a mile long so we bailed. Rest of the times I've probably just been lucky that I wanted to check out the band before the mystery set so I usually got in early.
I agree this is good news, I hope it helps ease some of the anxieties some folks have had about attending this year. Personally, if FEST was happening I was going regardless of any Covid stipulations/requirements. I think everyone needs to do their own risk assessment for themselves and their close contacts in order to go to shows in our current environment.
The Lawrence Arms just dropped because of "family issues." They dropped off PRB as well and were replaced with Dillinger Four. Curious to see if we see the same thing at Fest... I'm kinda gutted that they cancelled, but I fully understand, and if D4 replaces them it would soften the blow significantly. Hah.
Well fuck lol that was my number 1 set Garrett Dale dropped on the Fest app so I’m assuming RCR might be dropping too
Schedule updated and added a TBA for 2PM on Bo so probably not getting anyone big :( Assuming no Sundowner set obviously but wonder if Brendan will keep his set. Both of those didn’t change
Yeah, the Larry Arms were my #1 too! Looks like RCR is still on the schedule and would have kinda assumed they'd drop RCR at the same time too if that were the case... Is Garrett still in Canada? I'd guess BK might keep his set, all things considered. Might decide it's not worth the trip. Who knows... Curious to see who they pull in to replace the Larry Arms! Looking at my tentative schedule, the benefit here is that I'll probably be able to see Ghost Town Remedy now and it justifies not going to Bo Diddley so I'll get to see AWS or Prince Daddy instead of Hot Water, for sure! (Trying to find the silver linings, here...)
Fest just posted that they've started looking for a replacement. God, this is a shitty year to be a festival booker... Wonder if that 2pm time is gonna stick or if they'll switch it up if they find somebody bigger who can jump in.
Lineup took another hit, Western Addiction is cancelling their touring plans this year including their appearance at Fest. We all knew these were coming, but honestly was secretly holding out hope Fest would scoot along under the radar without being impacted.
Red City Radio dropped too. This could honestly work in my favor if they opt to bump up Broadway Calls...
I'm getting slightly worried Frank Turner might not be able to cross the pond for this. Hopefully they'll be able to refund me the single-venue tickets I bought if that's the case.
I keep thinking about Frank. I'm not sure what his deal is, but given that he has a whole tour booked? So long as he can make it over here by the end of September he should be good. His first US show is September 23rd.
Those could have potentially been the two best sets of the weekend for me lol huge bummer Also Brendan and Sundowner sets are gone now too
Also worth noting Frank’s tour leading to Fest is a duo, so I’m assuming he’s playing as a duo at Fest as well
I know Bo Diddley and Heartwood are outdoor stages. Are there any others that are outdoors? Considering sticking to outdoor stages if the COVID numbers haven't dropped by then...
There’s a bar Palomino I think that has an indoor and outdoor stage. There was also a pizza place that did acoustic sets outside as well.
