Precisely my thought, hah! It still kinda fits given the other bands on that bill, but I'm over his solo stuff to be totally honest. Oh well. Early bed time on Saturday night, I guess?
Lots of mystery sets during that time! Also if none of those pan out I'll watch Annabel No early bed time at Fest!!!
I don't think I have it in me to do an early bed time at fest. There is always a mystery set or a random band that I will at least watch some of instead of going home early.
Fest 18 sunday night would like to have a convo with you (although you're excused since it was your bday) haha
Are any of these newly announced bands worth looking into, not familiar with any of them other than Chuck and Eve6 obviously? If scheduling works out an Eve6 set could be a lot of fun, not that stoked for Chuck Ragan but I guess he'll have a pretty busy weekend.
Direct Hit! dropped Nick delves into the details on his socials but the TL;DR version is that his child is unvaccinated and he's worried about potentially catching a breakthrough infection. Very valid reason and a very well-worded post. But real bummed to not be able to see them... Especially since the set time adjustments now mean that I'll be missing Pears and will have to bolt from the other venue I'm at watching Catbite's No Doubt cover set to get there in time for the start of the Copyrights' set.
The Catbite No Doubt cover set is definitely the cover set I'm most interested in, and I usually don't do the cover sets. But now that The Copyrights have a new album coming out and the first single is good...I think I'm going with the convenience of staying in place for Pears / The Copyrights. At that time of night (aka how many drinks), not sure how fast I can walk at 45 degree angle anyhow LOL. Major bummer to lose DH! in any case but understandable, everyone has to access their risk and factor it into decisions
Yeah I totally get it, but bummer. Now I'm bummed to miss Direct Hit and will have to miss The Copyrights too... unless somehow I get to see IIOI do Proper elsewhere
A lot of the cover sets just tend to conflict with "real" sets I'd rather see. The Catbite set is going to be a blast, no doubt (pun intended), but it's mostly driven by my partner and friend wanting to see it. If I had my way, I'd be at Knockin' Boots all day from Crime in Stereo onward... As it stands now, though, gonna be there for CiS and No Trigger, heading over to Downtown Fats for Bad Operation, S.M.N., and Catbite... Then back for the Copyrights. NGL, I'm kinda hoping they add another band at some point to bump the Copyrights and Pears up a little later. That would make my night much less stressful.
Have you seen S.M.N live before? I saw them at FEST 18 and they were sooo good, really awesome live band. Unfortunately, I couldn't get into their recorded material after I saw them live, but I'd see them live again in a heartbeat.
Historically, are there queues to get into the venues if you're arriving just as a band is getting on? Just wondering how easy it will be to rush between venues, arriving just in time and actually getting in.
It totally depends on the artist as well as the venue. You could walk right in & get a spot close to the stage if it's a "less popular" artist, or you could wait in line and not get into the venue for capacity. That happened to me for Modern Baseball's cover set of The Killers But you'll probably have a pretty good idea of the most popular sets
Definitely curious as well...Also, I believe the APP is now available to download if anyone cared to do that.
Sweet the app is out, now I can officially start to plan a schedule...although try not to get too attached lol. First thing that jumps out on the app, the venue map...damn Heartwood looks far
I was just looking it up on Google Maps and it said 10. So 15 could just as well be true depending on a number of factors. Haha. Gonna want buffer time for any trek out there, regardless.
Yeah 10 isn't as bad but still creates a chunk of missing time with getting in as well I wish the ska stage wasn't there Friday lol
I mean, that line-up is so stacked... If you slotted it in on any day at those times it would cause me more, and arguably more frustrating conflicts. Haha. I plan on catching a few bands at Mother's Pub (Bling Adam and the Federal League, Lettermans, American Television) before heading over to Bo Diddley for Spanish Love Songs. Then I'll be heading to Heartwood for Catbite, Kill Lincoln, and WATU. From there, who knows. Skatune Network is guaranteed fun. Cobra Skulls/RCR will be an undeniable blast... But I've also never seen Pity Party or the Sonder Bombs. It all feels like a win no matter what I do, TBH. Haha. Will probably wind up catching some of Cobra Skulls and RCR.
Originally I thought the hike to heartwood would be doable for back and forths but I think it is more of once a day a pick a block time to be there. It’s an outdoor stage as well, theres a good chance outdoor stages might be in higher demand this year. I’d hate to haul ass down there just wait to get in. @alkalinexandy our paths are going to cross a lot on Friday LOL
Oh, for sure it's not ideal for popping in/out quickly for single sets. Other than Friday night, I will probably only be tracking down there to catch Origami Angel in the afternoon on Saturday (or later that night for Prince Daddy). But I'll be using Friday's walk to/from there as a way to gauge how much of a pain it's going to be. Hah. My Saturday afternoon has some rough conflicts between Heartwood, High Dive, and the Wooly... So I feel like I probably won't bother. But we'll see. Who else are you catching on Friday night?!!
I’ll be catching Blind Adam, Lettermans, American Television...then it will be a Joystick Spanish Love Songs toss up. Probably opt for Joystick under the assumption that SLS will have a mystery set. Then Omnigone, Catbite, Kill Lincoln, try to catch some of Taking Meds then close with Cobra Skulls, RCR, Days N Daze, and Vacancy. I got some alt plans that include other bands, it’s a fluid situation LOL
