Troy Sennett's profile on Record Club Been all in on Factory.fm but I went ahead and made a profile on Record.club too. Also been enjoying following along with what you’re all listening to here even though participating consistently would be tough this year for me with a new baby.
Day 13 Third Eye Foundation - Semtex (1996) Deluxe version is over 4 hrs, which actually works for this kind of thing. Just throw it on all day long and it becomes a heavy blanket.
Day 13.5 Ka / Hermit and the Recluse - Orpheus vs. the Sirens (2018) I enjoyed the second half of this more than the first, but it seems like a grower overall. The production on this is next level and Ka was truly a genius wordsmith (RIP). Looking forward to spending more time with this and checking Ka’s other albums.
He just doesn’t have an ounce of sincerity in him on anything I’ve heard and I think I need SOME modicum of that. Balance the dog-pee jokes with SOMETHING.
Personally, I’d go with Souvenirs. But if you want the more polished end, it’d be reasonable to hit Phoenix at this point too. Souvenirs is much more country-rock and Eagles influenced than he later stuff and it’s the one where his songwriting REALLY kicked in
Day 15 Piglet - Lava Land (2005) maybe this would’ve hit harder if I were new to math-rock but I’m very familiar with it so this is pretty traditional IMO
Day 15.5 Rufus & Chaka Khan - Ask Rufus (1977) Absolutely loved. Reminds me of music my Mom played when I was a kid. A couple tracks are all-timers. Need to listen to more Chaka Khan.
“Egyptian Song” is one of my favorite songs of all-time. So much atmosphere, so much control of dynamic rise-and-fall. Goddamn perfect. Rufusized is amazing too when you’re seeking a follow-up
Day 16 Sleepy’s Theme - The Vinyl Room (1998) For anyone seeking something deeply funky and adjacent to OutKast. Organized Noize instrumentation is truly lush and fantastic on this thing.
I’m currently becoming obsessed with Chaka Khan. I listened to the album again and it’s so good. Moving backwards to Rufus Featuring Chaka Khan. I’ll get to Rufusized soon enough. Egyptian Song is beautiful, as is Earth Song and Everlasting Love. And Magic in Your Eyes. Lol. This is addicting.
She’s just so versatile. She can pull off influences of soul, funk, jazz, gospel, etc. Her fame endures for a reason
Day 17 Jun Fukamachi / 21st Century Band - Royuku (1975) this was dizzying and masterful in every way. excellent stuff. I also listened to Hiromasa Suzuki’s High-Flying which also ruled and way more funky. still super new to it but loving Japanese jazz-fusion so far
Day 18.5 Sunn O))) - Black One (2005) My first Sunn O))) album and I enjoyed it a lot. Will continue digging through their stuff.
