Yeah, def agree with you there. The mixing(?) is so unusual that it almost hurt my ears at times, and the music itself meanders but is fantastic. Reminded me of a lonelier, spiritually-broken D’Angelo.
Yeah, I read this is an outlier to the rest of the discog. Very intrigued to check everything else out
Day 11.5 Colin Stetson - New History Warfare Vol.2: Judges (2011) This was good to work to but I don’t really see myself returning to it. Always glad to become aware of artists doing original, creative shit like this though. Looks like he’s done a lot of scoring for some great movies.
Absolutely fucking unconscionable that half the songs are uploaded with the wrong track names in the wrong order and it’s been that way for long enough that it’s noted IN ITS WIKI PAGE!!!
I feel like I don't really know what the boundaries of post-punk are as a genre. Like, wiki lists Wire, who I thought were just punk. And Talking Heads, who I thought were somewhere between art rock and new wave. Either way, it's a genre/sub-genre I need to do more listening in.
It's certainly a wide net. I usually think of Joy Division & rip offs/descendants when I think of post-punk. Slower, more atmospheric, occasionally containing synths, more melodic with British voices. Bands like Talking Heads and the Cure definitely evolved past that style. Script of the Bridge by The Chameleons has been a recent favorite post-punk album of mine.
Browse you guys should sign up for this. basically letterboxd for music. went public a few days ago. i got an invite to the beta a few months ago and it was a little wonky early on but it’s fun now
Franco Battiato - La voce del padrone Really, really loved this. Italian synth/city/art pop. Super catchy, can see myself returning to it when it gets nicer outside. Good stuff
Yellow Magic Orchestra - Technodelic Grating at first, and still a little grating throughout, but occasionally the songs do mesh into brilliance. I feel like this one is going to take a little to grow on me, but I do see myself coming back to it. Vid rocks EDIT: I have already gone back to a bunch of tracks and and down various rabbitholes for the members. I didn't realize Haruomi Hosono was also behind this beauty:
Espo's profile on Record Club I joined that record club site. It has an app, which makes it better than some of the other ones. MusicBoard never really took off. Rate Your Music is probably still the best option, but there isn't as much of the social aspect.
It’s a cool idea but I’m not sure I need to catalogue and “rate” everything I listen to. At the very least I think I would become obsessive and spend every waking minute on that site lol
