I jinxed myself. I go to my parents' every Monday for dinner and designed my MWE so every Monday an album lands to listen to with my Mom that she'd be into, but chaotic family showed up from out of town unannounced and we didn't get to listen. I think the universe saw this post and scrambled for whatever chaos it could scrape up on short notice.
Man, I am right there with you. I expected that one to be a home run for me, and I am just not feeling it in the slightest.
And that's a wrap! Fun month, y'all! Was glad to have this thread, since Twitter engagement around #MWE seemed nonexistent this year.
Hats, The Positions, and Kick were probably the three I was most taken with. Also loved Zevon and Billie and Beastie Boys, and was very pleasantly surprised by those Gorillaz and Britney Spears albums. Overall, though, I at least liked 26 or 27 of these, and want to spend more time with a whole bunch of them. A successful month, in spite of Twitter sucking. What were the big takeaways for you?
Still need to hear Fables of the Reconstruction to finish off, but aside from that: I'm glad I listened to all 28. Feel like they all were at minimum interesting and expanded my knowledge. The ones I'll probably keep spinning the most would be Girlfriend, Another Green World, and the June Millington, Genya Ravan, and Shaun Cassidy albums. I feel like I'll be recommending those last two to people next year.
That album immediately had me picking up my guitar for the first time in a bit. Have to imagine that's a pretty common reaction to hearing Girlfriend for the first time though.
getting those descriptions in... this Waylon Jennings and Jessi Colter album is low stakes but great. y'all should already know the Staples Sisters are amazing but if you don't def check this record out.
finally finished my writeups! good year as always, despite Twitter sucking. highly recommend The Sundays, PJ Harvey, and Au Pairs.
in case anyone listened to Yellow Moon last month and was like wow, what if a jam band covered that and I could listen to a soundboard recording of it, I've got you Yellow Moon | 2024-02-24 | Max Creek | Relisten
i listened to the max creek show you posted elsewhere recently. What’s the story here? They’ve been around for like 50 years and from CT is all I know
