Here's my thread! I listened to Dua Lipa's Future Nostalgia on my way home from my parents' place tonight and linked the review in the thread.
His lyrics and vocal stylings are definitely the biggest hurdle. Folks have talked about Kaputt as his “lounge lizard” record; most of those songs were sung with a hand mic while laying on a couch.
Kind of surprised more people aren't doing that, tbh. I just kind of pick whatever I'm in the mood to listen to that day haha.
I've seen multiple people on here name-drop that Labi Siffre album. I'm curious if that's the consensus choice for him. I've heard Remember My Song and loved it, but hadn't gotten to anything else. His shit used to be a challenge to find through legal means.
I did it last year for MWE and loved it. “Cannock Chase” is a staple of my winter playlists now. “Watch Me” is an all-time calm song for a sunny day though I think it’s just on the deluxe.
I might have to squeeze it in as a bonus listen. I really liked Remember My Song a lot. God, such a fantastic record. "Fast Car" is one of the best songs of all time, but the whole thing is so consistently excellent.
i’m planning on doing every day also paranoid is in the argument for best album ever. it’s perfect. if you want more oddly calm sabbath:
2Pac's 'All Eyez on Me' is my album of the day....hated HipHop/Rap growing up so there's a few rap classics on my list...now a few of my favorite artists are from that genre so i'm excited for the listen
Paranoid is awesome, but they’re so good that there are at least 2 other albums you could make a case for as the best. My personal favorite is Sabbath Bloody Sabbath
If anyone’s a fan of the legendary Albert Lee, he rips a hell of a solo on “My Baby Thinks He’s a Train” Edit: In combing through the credits, noticed the amazing sax playing on the closer is Phil Kenzie, who has some of the best sax playing of all time on Al Stewart’s “Year of the Cat”
My true gateway to appreciating hip hop was Kendrick and you can hear the influence from this album. It is a long listen with 27 tracks but every time you start to feel the energy drain a little there's another banger to keep your attention
