That reminds me about the 10-year repressing of that album I bought that will presumably be coming…eventually.
Day 10 is Rated R by Queens of the Stone Age from 2000, and this was really fun. Listened to it while out for a run, and it was the quickest run I've done in a while, which I'll credit entirely to this album... There's nothing fancy about it, just great riffs and songs, anthemic and loud. The band get heavier than I'd heard from the singles, a song like "Quick and to the Pointless" sounding like Nirvana at their noisiest. Really fun stuff, definitely one I'll come back to when I'm in the mood for something just like this.
I hate being so banal as to like a band/artist whilst shitting on their biggest hit, but Midnight City irritates me every time I hear it.
Day 10: Reunion Tour by The Weakerthans Working my way backwards in a way, I became a fan of John K Samson from his solo work. As a fan of “Sun in an Empty Room” I had a vague idea of what to expect with this album, and was happy to find it. Varied Indie painted with shades of depression fleshed out with expectedly fantastic lyrics. Samson is able to tell the most mundane stories beautifully and with just enough wit. Will need to continue to absorb these songs and find new favorite lines with each listen. Favorite Tracks: “Hymn of the Medical Oddity”, “Night Windows”, and “Bigfoot!”
Finally got around to listening to Wilco's A Ghost Is Born because of #MWE. One of those "what have I been doing with myself" kind of albums. Loving it.
#MWE is tougher when February is a bonkers good release month! That wasn't really the case last year, but it definitely is this year.
Obviously some big releases today, but I’m also planning on fitting in Caspian’s debut album The Four Trees today. Got very into the band back when Waking Season came out, but I’m terrible about looking into back catalogues.
Yeah, I can't recall any release days last February that had as many albums I wanted to check out as this one.
You've only just heard Vespertine?! I'm trying to decide where in my top three it'll be in the 2001 thread.
