I think maybe I misunderstood Pat. The notification area is where I'm having trouble distinguishing new from old, not the forums themselves.
How long does a notification stay highlighted to indicate it's new? When the forums are really active and I'm checking my notifications frequently, it's common for the entire page of notifications to remain blue for some time.
Roughly 10 minutes, depending on current server load. The notification page keeps about 7 days worth of them, and they'll stay in the pop-up for about 12 hours.
Is there a quick link to Followed threads on the main dashboard of the site, or do I have to click my username then Followed Threads?
The fastest way is to either double click on your username or right click > open in new tab which is also command+click or command_shift click. Any of those will open up the Followed Threads page faster.
What about something to signify that a user is staff, or a moderator on mobile? Currently we can only see that on desktop, right?
Correct, or by tapping their username it's in the mini-profile. I will probably be doing a color thing on the avatar at some point.
I loved it, especially in the sports forum threads when I would post like every two minutes during NFL games haha.
I tried it on Chrome but it wanted to post immediately, and since the box was empty I got a "please enter a valid message" error heh
It's known as an "accesskey" in nerd speak. And it's still attached to the post button here. It depends on what browser and operating system you're using by what the key combination is to make it work. You can find that out here. So that key combination + S will fire a post or quick reply. Also the tabindex is set so that if you are typing in a post field (editing a post, quick reply, new reply/new thread/new convo, basically everywhere), and hit tab, focus will immediately go to the reply button. That means that hitting tab and then following that with enter will send the post without having to use the mouse at all. It's how I post almost every time now — it's become a habit. Left finger hits tab, right pink follows right after with enter.
Well shit, as I was trying to figure out the alt s accesskey, I must have hit something by mistake because now when I try to hit the plus sign on my keyboard, ^ comes up instead. All my shift buttons are fucked now ç°"£ ahhh what did I do.
Yeah, I checked that earlier but it lists in Chrome Alt+S, or some cases Alt+Shift+S, and it still isn't working for me
Chrome is weird and shit breaks on a regular basis for me. Like I can't control + command + D on a word to get a dictionary on here right now and it works literally everywhere else in the operating system. Not sure what their deal is.
