I heard it was the best of the three...

I’ll watch the third film tonight. It will hard for it to be better than 78 for me and it will be hard for it to be worse than 94.

It was a little too slow paced for a bit but it picks up nicely

I liked the third too. I enjoyed the trilogy. It was predictable but enjoyable. Not sure it'll have a ton of replay value but it was something to look forward to each weekend. I'd actually have been fine if it had just been standalone movies each featuring a different one of the killers cause I thought they had some cool ideas there

Watched 1666 last night. It was okay. It was slightly better than 1994 but still not as good as 1978.

was kinda underwhelmed by 66 but still enjoyed the trilogy a lot as a whole. would've been fine taking 20 minutes or so from the 66 story and giving them back to 94 imo. and jesus christ the Irish accents were rouuuugh lmao

    pretty easily 94 > 78 >> 66 for me

the more I think about this the more mixed I am on it. as a conclusion to the trilogy it was fairly satisfying, but as a standalone film it had a lot of problems. maybe not more problems than the previous two but since I was less entertained they jumped out at me a lot more

like, we either need more or less time in the '66 storyline, because it was pretty hard to invest in what we got. some very creepy stuff like the Pastor reveal, but since we had spent almost no time with any of the characters it was hard to be as emotionally invested as the last two installments. Sarah and Hannah's relationship was done well, but everything else kind of got short shrift (and the Irish accents... just so bad. if 3/4ths of your cast can't do an accent, just write around it, please!) the other big problem is that the script never really justified the usage of actors from the other two movies - sure, Deena is seeing through Sarah Fier's eyes, but it's totally unclear if she's just substituting in people she knows or has heard about for the townsfolk, or if it's some comment on the cyclical nature of the story (that really needed to be fleshed out if that's the case). it's just confusing for the audience when some of the actors are in familiar roles (eg Deena's brother is her brother, Ziggy and Cindy are sisters again) but then some are seemingly just random (the nice boyfriend from '78 is a despicable town drunk)

on the other hand, I really like what they did with the twist and the way that ripples back through the trilogy. I saw Sarah being innocent and wrongly accused coming since 94, but the way it played out was very satisfying, and the Solomon Goode reveal honestly had me guessing. this is my kind of twist, that actually enhances the preceding story, rather than detract from it for a shocking reveal. particularly the way it plays into the subversive elements of these movies, and how they clearly want to upend the queer panic and dated stereotypes of 90s/70s horror, is really cleverly done

the '94 stuff was all really fun - there was a bit of "oh, another sequence where they trap the killers by being smart, we've seen this literally two weeks ago" when it started but the way it played out was worth the repetition. particularly the sequence where the killers started fighting each other was brilliant and honestly could have gone on a lot longer. smart to centre the finale around Deena and Sam who were clearly the heart of the series imo, as much as I really loved Benjamin Flores Jr. and Gillian Jacobs in those roles. maybe I was just really tired by the end of this movie but it was straight up losing me at the end, like that scene where Deena and Sam step out of the house, see a dude in a car get hit by a garbage truck and it's never commented on or mentioned again - I must have missed something there because what the fuck was that?

overall a really fun trilogy and one that successfully subverts some of the more questionable tropes of the movies it's influenced by. they're no masterpieces but I can see myself throwing on '94 and '78 in the future when I want to chill with something fun

They commented on the the dude and the garbage truck thing, I forget the exact quote but something about Sunnyside luck being gone, essentially showing the curse had really been ended

Man I really loved each one of these! Fun teen horror movies with solid LGBT+ representation that tackled themes of generational trauma. Not perfect films by any means, but man I loved all 3

I fully expected the friends to be brought back to life in the end somehow. Glad they didn't go that route.

1666 made me like 1978 a little more. Liked ‘66 much more than I expected. I’ll probably revisit these in October

Finally caught the third installment. I had a lot of fun with these, and actually liked the return to ‘94.

Someone was mentioning a yearly Halloween special, and I would be down.

I also was shocked at the body count in ‘78, and the two main characters who were killed in ‘94 grocery store.
