I think I'm going to look into some more serialized stuff. 75% of my subscriptions are movie podcasts. I just downloaded the first season of (you guessed it) Serial for my thirty hour drive that starts tomorrow morning
Been loving Desert Island Discs in podcast format lately, going back to old ones, keeping up with new ones. Even if the guests don't particularly make me want to listen, hearing people talk about their love of music and their lives is just interesting no matter how it's framed. Dustin Hoffman, Tom Hanks, Bruce Springsteen and Jimmy Carr's were great. Highly recommend. For those outside of UK who may not be familiar: Desert Island Discs is a radio programme broadcast on BBC Radio 4. It was first broadcast on the BBC Forces Programme on 29 January 1942. Each week a guest, called a 'castaway' during the programme, is asked to choose eight recordings (usually, but not always, music), a book and a luxury item that they would take if they were to be cast away on a desert island, whilst discussing their lives and the reasons for their choices. It was devised and originally presented by Roy Plomley. Since 2006, the programme has been presented by Kirsty Young.
is this about movies or junkfood? haha. I'm looking for a movie/film podcast that is not douchey and is not just "let's talk about movies we don't like"
Movies. Very casual, they discuss "junkfood" movies - so cult/exploitation films. C Robert Cargill (one of the writers of Doctor Strange and the writer of Sinister) is one of the hosts and I love his thoughts on film. Stuff like Book of Eli, Big Trouble Little China, Death Race and so on are the general fair.
There's a podcast called The Actor and the Engineer Podcast where two guys talk about one movie for an hour. It's usually something current but not necessarily a blockbuster. The Discovery, Moonlight, Captain Fantastic... They're never condescending and it's really refreshing. Always just an honest discussion between two guys who clearly respect film
Great to hear! It's one of my current favorites. Love how it sounds exactly how it is - two guys sitting in a living room, drinking and talking about movies.
definitely. and their critiques aren't just like "fuck this movie", it's reasonable things, but even the critiques are talked about with such love for the movies.
Anyone here who listens to The Fighter and The Kid? It's actually really good (well, for me), because they guest a lot of stand up comedians and UFC fighters so the conversations are interesting. They also do the video ones so you can see what's going on at the same time.
Just a heads up to fellow podcast listeners that I made a thread for my show, Welcome to Geekdom. Would love to have more people pop in! https://forum.chorus.fm/threads/welcome-to-geekdom.19057
a lil bumperino for this thread since I was about to start a podcast thread but saw this one was fairly engaged here's some shit I've been listening to a lot of Pod Save America if you want to keep up with politics Walking The Floor with Chris Shiflett, 2nd Steve Earle interview is fantastic, Dissect, the entire first season is dedicated to breaking down To Pimp A Butterfly, S2 is underway and he's doing My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy, could not recommend this podcast enough. Homeboy does his homework
Listening to the first episode of S2 right now. I'm super into this. Especially since Kanye is in my top 3 favorite artists of all time.
Good Christian Fun is a newer podcast and an absolute delight. "Good Christian Fun is a podcast delving into the strange upside-down world of Christian pop culture. Hosts Kevin T. Porter and Caroline Ely are your tour guides through the weird and hilarious world of faith-based entertainment. GCF is a show for skeptics and believers alike, all are welcome. Don’t worry, we won’t make you go to church ;)" My personal favorite episodes are Michael W. Smith, Jump5, and Bibleman.
