Thursday is the best in the scene for closers. Autumn Leaves revisited being the top choice. In general there are way too many perfect closers to mention. Some classics I haven't seen yet include: The Rolling Stones: You can't always get what you want Bob Dylan: Desolation row Prince: Purple Rain Tom Waits: Anywhere I lay my head
Two Tabs of Mescaline - Glassjaw Maniac (ROD) - FYS Into The Airwaves - Jack's Mannequinn Motion Picture Soundtrack / Untitled - Radiohead - after a whole album of minor key it's fucking amazing when the major key shift comes in during MPS. The Final Cut - Coheed Southtown Girls - The Hold Steady That's all that hits me off the top of my head.
Obligatory *fin - Anberlin Also Harbinger, for a career closing song - Anberlin too A - Cartel End of an Era (or any of the previous closers, but I like this one best) - Marianas Trench Deathbed - Relient K Hold Out - The Reign of Kindo
Motion City Soundtrack - The Weakends Defeater - Cowardice Turnover - Intrapersonal The National - Mr. November Also weird caveat, but Linkin Park's closing song on "Minutes to Midnight", "The little things give you away" could be the best song in their discography.
cant believe I forgot "Colly Strings" Also, despite my (for the most part) complete disinterest in Taking Back Sunday post Tell All Your Friends, I actually think "Everything Must Go" is the best song they've ever written.
Funny you mentioned this because this is how I feel about all Anberlin closers. They are all fantastic, even "Harbinger", which I was the least impressed with, is still pretty great. Other non- Anberlin favorites: Jimmy Eat World - 23 Jimmy Eat World - Dizzy Funeral For A Friend - Novella Periphery - Racecar The Academy Is...- Almost Here Blink-182 - I'm Lost Without You Mae - The Sun And The Moon Four Year Strong - Maniac (R.O.D) Mastodon - The Last Baron Mastodon - Diamond In The Witch House
I agree with you there, except for the closer on New Surrender. But yeah, I feel like "Harbinger" is the perfect last song for their career.
Really? You didn't like "Miserable Visu"? I'll be the first to admit New Surrender was generally their weakest release but I love that song and find it to be on par with their other closers in terms of awesomeness.
Nah, seemed like they were trying too hard to recreate the magic of "*Fin". I like the chorus well enough, but the rest I find it long and boring so I end up skipping it when I listen to the album. There's a lot more to love on that album than people let on, but that song is not it haha.
A couple that come to mind other than the ones that have already been mentionned are: Barcelona - Please don't go Cursive - Staying Alive Thursday - Stay True Radiohead - Street Spirit Strata - Daylight in the city And EP closer Coasta - Sunzal.
I don't even remember what the closer off New Surrender sounds like. "Depraved" is weak too, and I don't recall being that jazzed about the closer on Vital either. They really had a solid run for those first few albums though. "Naive Orleans" and "Fin" are both among my favorite closers.
How did I forget about Hold Me Down. That song is devastating Edit: A few more actually just came to me Green Day - F.O.D. Julien Baker - Go Home Tigers Jaw - Never Saw It Coming
Big fat list: Elliott Smith - Say Yes, I Didn't Understand, The Biggest Lie Sufjan Stevens - Blue Bucket of Gold, The Transfiguration, Impossible Soul Radiohead - Life In A Glass House, A Wolf At The Door, Videotape Death Cab For Cutie - A Lack of Color, The Ice Is Getting Thinner Doomtree - Jaded, Marathon, Fresh New Trash Dessa - Sound The Bells Bright Eyes - Road To Joy Arctic Monkeys - A Certain Romance, I Wanna Be Yours, 505 Laura Stevenson - The Wheel Lana Del Rey - Lucky Ones Eisley - Shelter Alt-J - Taro Paper Tiger - Cigana Rogue Wave - Cheaper Than Therapy Sia - Where I Belong There's like 238047012 more
These two for sure. Also: Chasing Hamburg (Polar Bear Club) Like a Record Player (The Lawrence Arms) A World That We Never Made (Dear Landlord) New Years (The Flatliners)
