"Birdie" is the only real dud on here, I think. It totally kills the momentum of the flow for me, and it seems kind of redundant, thematically? It's a lot to wrap my head around though, for sure. It's all I really want to listen to right now.
That's good to hear because I started it and enjoyed it more than I'd expected but gave up at Birdie, will listen to the rest of it tomorrow
Yeah, I'm hesitant to say it needs some editing, because that would defeat the whole purpose of the scope of the album, but "Birdie" strikes me as a low point. Putting it right before "Leaving LA" really doesn't help the album's flow. So many beautiful moments on this thing though. That gradual swell on "Magic Mountain." The entirety of "When The God of Love..." His falsetto on several tracks . . . I'm in love.
I'm not sure the closing track is needed. I like the lyrics, but sonically, Magic Mountain is such a beautiful ending.
It comes together beautifully at the end. The run from "Two Wildly Different Perspectives" (which might still be my favorite song) to the closer is fantastic. Also, the end of "The Memo" gives me chills every time.
"Smoochie" is awesome for its lyrics/steel guitar/entire vibe. Honestly hard for me to pick a low point on the album, although it is a long haul. Despite the bleakness, I walked around campus this morning enjoying the scenery and beautiful weather and this album was perfect for it
This album has is really affecting me. I was worried it might be way too overblown when it was announced but I'm genuinely moved by this. More than any album has in a long time.
Am I the only person who doesn't like "The Memo"? That song grates on me, particularly so late in the album. Just messes up the vibe to me. That said, this whole thing has grown on me tremendously.
Already got my tickets to San Diego. Not sure if I'm stoked or bummed that it's his first domestic show and his tune-up for Coachella.
I'd probably see him in San Diego if I wasn't already going to at Coachella but ah I'm so excited to see what he has in store
Haven't listened to the album yet so I have no input as to what it will be. But Pure Comedy would be tough to cut up to get down to the 4 minutes or so that SNL usually allots.
I would really love for him to play this album front to back on this tour. Then maybe just encore with some Fear Fun/Honeybear stuff.
Because you don't enjoy it? Or because it's an hour and 15 minutes (and quite dense)? Or a little of both?
