I like this album a lot and everything FJM so far, but I totally get why this album doesn't appeal to everyone. It's long, repetitive, sparse, unembellished. It demands the listener to put up with a lot of proselytizing. Really, I should hate it. Yet somehow it sucks me in, and oddly enough I find it really soothing, despite learning we only have two decades left to live!

Some of the posts in Aarons article thread are hilarious.

Top 10 worst listening experiences of all time? hahahahaha

Okay I lied, I can't do it. It's just not for me. I'll leave y'all that do like it alone to enjoy the album. Couldn't make it past the first half hour or so.

I used to like this guy, but this new shit kinda makes me want to die.

I'm unaware if there was any bad blood between Robin/Fleet Foxes, I thought it was pretty amicable?

No one really knows, as far as I'm aware. The only hint was in Robin's AMA on r/indieheads when he said he hasn't spoken Josh since he left the band, and then avoided every other question altogether. The "Team Robin" thing was just in reference to "CRACK-UP" being his status message, to say that I prefer FF too.

I definitely prefer FF in a more broad way.. Although Helplessness Blues barely edges out Honeybear to me(they're both top 10 all time for me probably).. And while this is a great record I prefer both Fear/Fun and Honeybear to it.. That probably won't change either

Haha, idk man, getting to interact with Robin was pretty cool. Good way to find new music too.

Haha that wasn't meant to be directly aimed at you, I just imagined Chorus being named AbsoluteIndie and shuddered. I'd still be here, would just...not want my friends to know

Well a few weeks ago they robin posted a picture of their drummer and said something to the effect of "best drummer we've ever had, hands down". Who knows though.

I explained myself above!!! I just think it's a real silly name (as was absolutepunk but that sure didn't stop me from going on there a million times a day...)

So weird to me that it seems like ILYHB has mostly gotten better reviews than this. This one is soooo much more consistent.

I think this album is just too much for a lot of people. After sitting with it since the leak, I really believe it's stronger with a few tracks cut (revolution, birdie, smoochie)

I think I liked this? I don't know, after one listen I don't really have any coherent thoughts. I can't say any particular song stuck out to me in a negative way, but at the same time a lot of the songs didn't leave a positive impression. Beyond that, some of the lyrical content definitely rubs me the wrong way (even moreso than the past two releases).

There's a chance that my reaction is simply a product of this record being 74 minutes long, and being in the wrong mindframe to adequately digest it. I certainly intend to return to it multiple times, because there were some really beautiful passages and I loved ILYHB, but for one cursory listen this thing is just too deeply packed for me to discern my feelings either way.

  20. I think it makes sense seeing as ILYH is shorter, more diverse, less condescending and generally contains stronger melodies
    I can't imagine cutting "Revolution"

Lyrically, I think it is important for the theme of the album, but sonically it does nothing for me.

  22. Damn. It's such an earworm to me, haha

Yeah, "Revolution" was one of the more immediate tracks on here for me.

Have yet to talk to anyone who just loves "Birdie." Feel like the album would be better without it.

I couldn't get through this. Couldn't get through the first album either, but man do I love Honeybear... Probably just gonna be one of those albums for me I guess
