I never know what to listen to after him, other than 70s Randy Newman. Nothing else really makes sense

I've never listened to him, I was put off by his whole thing for a long time. Should I start with the new one?

 

Harry Nilsson and/or 80s Cohen.

 

If you're still off-put by his "schtick", I would start with God's Favorite Customer. If you like that one, you'll like this. Chloe and Fear Fun are both less irony-driven, but I don't know if you'll ever fully escape that. Honeybear (which is his best) and Pure Comedy are kind of filled with that.

 

Nilsson is the go to

 

It's so hard for me to rank his songs but Mahashmashana is absolutely a top 5 FJM song.

Man I love this. Instantly better than his last one for me.

 

Yea this is pretty easily in contention with honeybear and customer for top tier

 

Haven’t fucked with FJM in awhile, but damn i love this album.

 

Title track is seriously so massive. Man.

 

This is really everything I could ask for from an FJM album and then even more.

Starting to think this is his second best after Honeybear. I fear I am going to be annoying about this album.

 

It’s very good. Right now it would be maybe 3rd or 4th for me. I don’t think he’ll ever top GFC for me personally.

 

yeah it’s fourth for me right now but there isn’t a bad song and i only see it climbing, maybe to 2nd

 

josh tillman and the accidental dose and mental health are incredible tracks

 

The strings on "Accidental Does" are so harsh, I love it. "Mental Health" has grown on me a ton.

 

he's on the how long gone pod and saying mark ronson asked him to co-write I'm just ken but he had to decline bc he was writing this. breaking my brain.

 

This is definitely shaping up to be an album that becomes my personality for a few months

 

Initial reaction definitely has me putting it up there with GFC and Honeybear. So good.
