Love to come into the thread and read phrases like this and stories about strangers “sealing the deal” Fatter Jam Mystery Baby!
I picked up a used record of Fear Fun last week for $10, has anyone here read the whole novella thing in the liner notes? Is it worth it? Also worth mentioning this guy’s catalog is pretty incredible at this point, what a run to have in the space of five-six years.
If anyone wants a typed version of the novel (Mostly Hypothetical Mountains, right?) I think I have one saved somewhere.
PDF version of Mostly Hypothetical Mountains attached. I've also got the Pure Comedy screenplay (essentially what the theatrical live show was going to be before Josh said fuck it and scrapped it) and his novella Otherness.
Of course! The PC screenplay formatting is really messy - I've thought about running it through Celtx/Final Draft for something cleaner but this is essentially the version Josh posted online. Otherness, at least compared to Mountains, is pretty straight forward and seemingly draws on a lot of autobiographical experiences.
i think im gonna do a write up on this album on medium. it'll be my first formal write up of an album in like two and a half years but there's something about it that makes me feel the need to write down all my thoughts in order to figure out just what it is about all of this as a whole that making it hit me so hard and, hopefully, spread the word to some people on the fence or skeptics who have always been put off but his persona or whatever. so it won't be a review really but just an exploration of what i see in this. because i really do think this is the album to win over the people who may have written him off three to four years ago, it's everything that's great about him with a massive amount of sincerity and vulnerability. there was a lot of that on honeybear too but honeybear still at the end of the day feels like a larger than life album by a larger than life character. it's fucking phenomenal and a perfect 10 to me but, comparatively, god's favorite customer feels extremely grounded and down to earth. it's focused on the reality of an adult relationship and the thing you go through when it begins to crumble around you. anyway im gonna flesh out all my thoughts on this and how all the songs tie together and see what conclusions i come up with. ive been batting around quite a few ideas in my head and i can't wait to get them out.
I work at a restaurant on the grounds of the fest he’s headlining tomorrow and while I have to work for 13 hours, our patio is just about front row seating, so I’m still excited
This record is sooo good. Finally got around to really listening to it this week. Enjoy it so much more than the last one. I can let it play on repeat which something I don’t think I ever did with Pure Comedy.
Live on the radio right now Father John Misty Edit: So he wasn't exactly live, but he recorded live versions of God's Favorite Customer, Just Dumb Enough to Try, Mr. Tillman, and Please Don't Die for KCRW. They all sounded great. Hopefully they make them available to stream/download.
