“Mr. Tillman, for the seventh time We have no knowledge of a film that is being shot outside Those aren't extras in a movie; they're our clientele No, they aren't running lines and they aren't exactly thrilled” The flow of this verse gets me every time
like mr tillman is hilarious but it also paints a super fucked up picture of where he was at at the time, clearly in a manic state flying off the handle but convincing himself he's "feeling good damn i'm feeling so fine," hes got these delusions of grandeur as you learn of the complete mess he's made at the hotel. its almost alarming as the song unravels and what he's been up to and the hook just writing it off. absolutely amazing storytelling and songwriting going on in that song, all in the confines of a fucking ridiculously catchy folk-pop tune. like i said, its one of his most iconic songs to me now that defines so much of who he is.
working from home today and decided to have a beer out on the deck listening to this album bc it's so nice out. that turned into three beers and fuck me this album is really really good.
I don't have a car so I can't leave my apartment but I do have a lot of whiskey and this album so ima go in.
I didn't talk about it much since the leak because a lot of people were holding out but I've spent a lot of time with this record and it's easily my album of the year so far.
I appreciate your varied taste, Jake. I was listening to this at work on my phone all day. Now listening on a 1000 watt speaker and it's a whole other world. Fuck.
Love how he kept the piano driven blueprint like a lot of pure comedy but used it in more of a pop way
The instrumentation is so lush on Dumb Enough To Try. It sounds pretty simple but there's so much going on.
Amazing moment in Hangout at the Gallows when he sings “Your compositions...” and the piantist fires off that little diddy.
