I'm not sure this will ever surpass ILYHB for me but it's still early ILYHB > GFC > Fear/Fun = PC what a run, man..
*making small talk with a stranger at a party* So um, WHAT’S YOUR POLITICS? WHAT’S YOUR RELI-HE-GIIIIOOOOOONNNNNN?
I really like the idea of him grasping for humor to kind of cool things off throughout this album (especially on The Palace) but it just ends up making the songs sound more honest and upfront.
The Palace gives me chills when he sings "head" the song is equal parts beautiful, heart breaking, and creepy.
Just got an email that Vinyl Me Please, Rough Trade, and UO all have different variants for the vinyl. Wonder how many were pressed of the "Loser" edition that I bought on his site?
WOW this is so good. Hadn't listened to the leak so I came in fresh this morning. Hangout at the Gallows and Just Dumb Enough to Try I think I need this on vinyl, what's the best looking variant?
Well the Loser edition is still available so it can't be that limited. Speaking of, mine is in "pre-shipment" in Traverse City, Michigan. That's only a 5 and a half hour drive do you think I can call and tell them I'm just going to come pick it up???
I'm not a big fan of FJM and haven't listened to him or given him any thought in a while and yet, being unconscious of when this album comes out, he came to me in a dream last night and told me to listen to this album today. I think that could mean something. But he also was naked and his penis was a laser gun.
I went from being kind of lukewarm on Mr. Tillman to fucking loving it. It's hilarious and the chorus is so groovy
I love how it ends with We're Only People. All of Pure Comedy was basically a dissection of the complexity of the human condition and the human race as a whole, and this album, which focused basically on the complete opposite by really focusing in on one individual and their journey over the course of a few months, ends with him throwing his hands up in the air and saying we'll never really understand. There's a really nice counterpoint there, and I think it ties these two albums together, which really exist as companion pieces.
Mr Tillman is definitely essential for setting the stage of the entire record. Agreed that it didn’t make a huge impression on me outside of the context of the record. But it’s perfect here.
lol on the youtube stream the album art is crying and slowly filling up the screen as the album goes on
