Yeah I think Capacity and Masterpiece, while very good, are a solid league below the two 2019 albums. Just shows how good those two are

If Two Hands is the worst Big Thief album, then my top 50 ranking in the albums by women/non-males thread will need to be thrown out before I can even post it

I don’t really listen to big thief, I’m sure they’re great

Two Hands is one of the best albums of the last handful of years

I thought the first two Big Thief records were pretty boring, I’m sure I’ll give them another shot eventually. I do like Two Hands and the new batch of songs.

New FJM song is good, never checked out the last record because I thought Pure Comedy was a slog, guess I need to do that

Reminds me a bit of Tranquility Base Hotel + Casino, I love that lounge-y sound. Can’t wait for this.

Pure Comedy has resonated with me a lot more in the pandemic than it did when it dropped. Those first 4 songs are incredible.

    still probably his worst though

the discourse around that album always bothered me because just a handful of songs were satirical critiques or analysis of the current times. the majority seemed to be a pretty personal, existential and self reflective record

I've come around to Pure Comedy a lot lately. Still think it could use some editing -- after some of the clever ways he frames his social commentary early in the record, I can't help but treat something as on-the-nose as "Two Wildly Different Perspectives" as anything but a throwaway. But the first half of that record is incredible, and "Magic Mountain" is one of my favorite songs.

Honeybear and GFC are still my 1 and 2 though.

  19. Some of my favorites on Pure Comedy never get mentioned - "A Bigger Paper Bag," "Smoochie," "In Twenty Years or So." The one-two punch of those closing tracks is gorgeous. It might be his worst, but other days, it's also my favorite. That's what's so impressive about his catalog.

I like Pure Comedy as an album the best. Revisiting Honeybear I think some of the songs haven't aged as well. The last three tracks on it are still incredible though, and probably the best stuff he's written.
