Vin was posting some weird stuff about rewriting the script last minute "for the fans". I think Lin realized he didn't want to cater to Vin for another 2 years of his life.
Saw someone bring up a good point on twitter. Whoever they get to direct is unlikely to be someone who has a strong voice or vision for their films. They already shot a weekend, they’re not gonna bring someone in who would make big changes. This is like Solo: A Star Wars story where they just need a competent reliable director who can come in and get the planned work done.
