They have to use a higher concentration in the mix, it's the only explanation. I've always thought Coke literally does taste better from McDonald's, it's so damn weird.

 

Still very bitter they closed down the Carl's Jr. that was like 20 minutes from my house. Now the closest one to me is like over an hour away, not worth it unless I'm already in the area.

My fiancé reads the news and compiles a newsletter for McD’s daily as part of his job and there was just an article recently he sent me about the process- the amount of concentrate it formulated to match the rate of the ice melting so it doesn’t get watered down as quickly and the concentrate is refrigerated, rather than left at room temp before going into the machine.

 

I'm still going to believe that freestyle machines are magic

 

thank god mcdonalds and in n out haven’t switched to those new systems of fountain drink dispensing because they have the best Coca Cola and sprite.

One thing fast food-related that I miss from living where I was during law school was that there was a Jollibee like ten minutes from my house, that place rules.

if I go to a place with a freestyle machine I just go for tea or water tbh

 

Why so much hate for them? Have barely used them so genuine question

 

Flavors are never consistent. Plain coke doesn't taste the same as coke out of a regular fountain or from a bottle/2L.

 

they use Coke Zero for instance, for every Coke flavor. so every flavor basically just tastes watered down and kind of the same

 

I don't mind freestyle machines, but you HAVE to get some varietal flavor because as others have said, regular coke or sprite or whatever does not taste like it does elsewhere.

 

I feel like the freestyle machines have a VERY specific aftertaste no matter what. The flavors help lesson it but it’s disgusting. My dude calls it “pez flavor” but I’m not sure I agree. Either way we both agree it’s distinct and can immediately tell when it’s come from those machines.
That’s part of the reason why I only drink strawberry lemonade at Wendy’s lol

 

I love freestyle machines. So convenient. When I go to Five Guys, I always mix strawberry and lemon Powerade.

I never heard complaints about those machines before coming in here heh. They've always worked well for me and I like mixing flavors :)

 

Yeah same, didn't realize they were such a hated feature. I like trying weirder options without feeling like I wasted money buying like a 12 pack or what not

 

I can understand the hate for them, but as long as they're still fairly uncommon, I think it's a fun mix up every now and then. I would hate it if all fountains were replaced with them though.

 

If I know a place has one of those freestyle machines I go out of my way to get a drink somewhere else
