This Popeye's chicken sandwich is the biggest marketing scam in history.

I can almost understand running out of chicken sandwiches the first day or week or whatever, but it's literally a chicken breast on a bun with pickles and mayo. Shouldn't be hard to have enough on hand to meet demand. This "coming back soon" bullshit is ridiculous.

 

Good marketing you mean, cause you're here talking about it haha.

Oh yeah, they know what they're doing. It's just nonsense from a consumers' stand point.

 

I kinda doubt that they ever actually "ran out" - Besides, how do you "run out" at EVERY location?

I think they just got hella popular/went viral and they figured they could milk it for even more by putting it on hold for a while. People will still come to Popeyes and order other stuff in the meantime and then when they eventually bring it back, it will be even more sought after than before.

 

I love Popeyes, I love chicken sandwiches, and the worst part of all is that I have yet to even try it, so all of that combined is just making me antsy af for it to come back

Popeye's is my favorite of the fast food fried chicken places and I never got to try it either. I kinda doubt that it will beat the spicy tenders with cajun gravy for me, but I'm sure it's still great.

 

Supply issues - stores can't order anymore.

When I worked at Starbucks they frequently underestimated the amount of product they needed during launches and we would be stuck with angry customers while we waited for the warehouse to restock so we could get product.

But I am a bit skeptical this wasn't planned from the start, or calculated once they saw how well they were selling.

Yeah, I get supply issues, but for every store nationwide to basically run out simultaneously seems like either a gross miscalculation or very well calculated plan.

 

I do know that I never go to Popeye's cause there's not one anywhere near me and even I am curious to try it haha.

 

It's pretty strange that it got so popular. I'm sure it's tasty, but it's a very average run of the mill chicken sandwich on the surface. Nothing unique or new about it.

That being said, I haven't stopped thinking about it for months and I never ever tasted one.

 

I can't decide if I like popeyes or bojangles better, but they're both clearly a level above chick-fil-a, kfc, and the rest.

 

Yeah the most likely explanation is literally the one that they offered: they had a certain amount of supply that they sent out to the stores, and that supply was supposed to last a certain amount of time, but then the sandwich went viral based on the "It's better than Chick-Fil-A" takes and they run out way faster than they planned to.

The real question is why it isn't back yet. I think they said they had planned for seven weeks of supply? And it's been longer than seven weeks since the stores sold out, let alone since the sandwich went national.

Anyway, by the time the sandwich comes back I doubt there will be any supply issues. People have moved on to the next shiny, short-attention-span-grabbing thing by now.

See, I thought it being a permanent menu item was always the plan from the beginning and they were just caught off guard by the demand back when it first went national. I just wonder why they haven't gotten any supply back to the stores yet. I feel like the window of most people caring has closed by now, it's kind of like they missed their chance to capitalize on the hype.

Popeyes during the chicken sandwich era was always busy.

all the local ones now have been ghost towns. That sandwich did wonders for them.

Yeah there was lines like crazy when the sandwich was around. Normally I never saw a single person there

 

They act like it's super hard to make these sandwiches. This should be simple. Throw a patty in the fryer, take it out, put it on bun with pickle and mayo. Next.

Are they hand breading every patty to order? This shouldn't be that difficult honestly.
