Also this one boomer was talking about how she’s lived here for 15 years and started talking about the clubhouse and it made me so mad to learn that we used to have open access to this large clubhouse with a kitchen and tables and a pool table and shit and then because ONE incident happened they now lock it and you have to request permission to do anything in there. AND there are cameras everywhere. If there are cameras everywhere why can’t we just use the facilities we literally pay for? it’s just so frustrating to me how communities don’t give a shit about...themselves. Like your existence as an HOA is to create and protect the community not protect a pool table. We are the community. I just hate everything
the suffolk county police dept. has the highest percentage of out of state applicants because the pay is absurdly high like top 5 in the country high
Damn. retire at like 45 with a quarter mill quitting check, and then collect that tax funded pension, move out of state (usually fl, no income tax) and either live sweet doing nothing or open a NY style pizza place and use all that money to ship NY water to fl
It's insane, the overtime is so much worse. My buddys dad retired from the NYPD after like 40 something years and in his entire career never once took a dollar of OT, he banked it all as time, and 'retired' and took all his banked time, which then equated to like a year and a half of paid leave, then when it ran out, he went in and signed the papers to start collecting pension. there was an investigation or something a few years back into the NYPDs overtime practices, because the more OT you work later in your career makes your pension higher, so folks would be swindling massive OT shifts just to better that pension. truly mind numbing how much money these folks make, essentially guaranteed.
like, i honestly think it's part of the reason why such shitty people become police. i mean, sure racism is a big part of it, but like, literally ANYYYONEEEE can take a 3 hour test and become a cop and make a million dollars in their career, and on long island you honestly have such a low risk of being hurt as a police officer because you spend most of your time pulling people over for speeding. when faced with no career path its almost a no brainer to do.
people spend their entire lives wanting to be doctors, lawyers, etc. - id wager most ppl who become cops are like "yeah i have little direction in life right now and I CAN MAKE HOW MUCH????"
*looking ahead to 20 years from now when I might finally pay my student loans off with my sub $50,000 teacher salary*
And thats of course not to imply that people with no career direction are shitty people, but more so that literally anyone off the street from any walk of life, in any life situation, with the most minimum education needed can take a test for a few hours and then literally have peoples lives in their hands a few months later.
When I was at community college and loopholed my way through half a degree of bs classes, one of the science classes I took (which counted as 4 lab credits, so that was basically either half or all of the credits needed for a lot of degrees) was literally going as a group to different ponds on LI and taking pictures of water fowl. Sometimes we'd get on a boat. The main "majors" amoung the class was sports marketing and people doing a law enforcement program (wtf even is that) So yeah...
I took a sports marketing class in high school (why?? Who fucking knows) and ended up making friends with 2 guys in there that also knew nothing about sports and we had to draft a fantasy basketball team and we literally did not know anybody but LeBron James I think and he's the only reason we ever got points because everybody else on the team we chose randomly what a fucking waste of time
I got a robocall the other day (I was expecting another call and this came from a number with my area code) asking me to donate to our local police union looooooooooooooooolllllllllllllllllllllllllll I wanted to throw my phone out the window
I had to reserve online and they only had a couple choices but I had to go inside to pick it up! During a pandemic!
