it's been so long since I watched s1, completely forgot Key & Peele were in it for a substantial time too. very surreal nowadays lol also Stephen Root my beloved
on s2 now. did I fall asleep and dream it or is Hank's universal language on the walls of the bar where Hanzee shoots the racist bartender? no idea what to make of that
Loving this season. I am still surprised there has been no canonical tie-in to previous installments yet, might be the first in this series to be truly standalone. Especially compared to how connected to previous installments seasons 2 and 4 were. Just a lot of scenes that are homages to the film.
Definitely his best actual role post MM (although i do like Fletch and appreciate some of the things he pops up in to be funny in)
His black mirror episode was great. His violent hazing incident and his response to being asked about it is not great.
if I only really enjoyed the first season of this show and tried but couldn't get into the next few, will I still enjoy this new one? I really enjoy Hamm as an actor and the rest of the cast looks great.
I'd suggest watching at least the first episode just to try it out yourself. Imo the first episode 100% sold me and I was super happy it was a 2 episode premiere because I actually wanted MORE. Similar to you, the first season was my favorite but this season has been simply amazing and my new favorites EASILY.
Yeah, this one feels closest to season 1 overall and that's probably my favorite season, so you'd likely enjoy it. There are a handful of character parallels you can draw across season 1 and 5 but it still manages to feel really fresh and engrossing.
well I finished my runthrough of the good seasons so I'll get around to catching up on this tomorrow I think. the reactions I've been seeing have me pretty excited, seems like it's picked up a lot as usual though after rewatching this show I'm confused why it's such a hot take to say s3 is the best season. like to my mind it's the clear winner in so many ways: - Varga is the best villain, it's not even close - arguably the best overall cast of any of them. even if not has easily the best non-main character/performance of them all with Stuhlbarg as Sy - the hero cop is at least marginally flawed and has an arc instead of being preternaturally good at everything and flawless. also bonus points cos her last name doesn't have "solve" in it lol - the absurdism and philosophical themes are actually weaved into the fabric of the plot itself. it's not just a UFO showing up as a metaphor for deus ex machina at the start and end (and don't get me wrong I fuck with the alien stuff), you can't separate the meat of s3 from the themes of uncertainty and perception of reality - it might be the season that hits the emotional beats best. this is pretty close admittedly because there's a few moments in 2 that wreck me every time, the conversation between Milioti and Offerman about him taking care of Molly after she dies being a strong contender. but man the whole second half of 3 is so sad, brutal and so well-written. "I've been killing him for 30 years, that was just when he fell" is the most devastating line and delivery in the show, hits like a fucking tonne of bricks - also it has Hamish Linklater. I rest my case
